How important is your domain name?

Hi all,
I am just getting started into CPA and I have a question in regards to choosing your domain names. In your personal experience and opinion, just how important is your domain name? Is it generally okay to use a neutral domain name, such as Abct.com?

The reason I ask is because CPA networks require that you have a site before you can get approved, yet I can't make a site like "cheapTshirtsfromEurope.com" if I don't even know if that network even has affiliates that sell t-shirts! So, how many I suppose to pre-build a site that promotes something if I don't even know what their network sells?

If you are just creating a website to be accepted into a network, the domain does not matter. However, once you start promoting via PPC or free traffic it does become essential to match it to your main keyword.

as sranju72 stated. For getting accepted the domain doesn't really matter. However when your promoting your products / offers it is very important to include atleast your primary keyword in your domain.

Thank's for the info. As a follow-up question, would a re-direct URL work just as well? So again for example, I buy a domain called "FreeTshirts.com" but redirects to my landing page at Abct.com/whatever. Would this be just as effective?

Instead of using a re-direct . . . use a full page iframe.

I agree with sranju72. Getting accepted into a CPA network is just about having a website. When promoting a CPA product then a much more targeted domain name is important for quality traffic to your page.

In answer to your second question, I use page re-directs all the time. As long as the web address that potential customers see follows what I have written above then it works a treat.

The importance of your domain name when promoting offers will
depend on how you choose to promote.

For example, if you are using PPV/CPV, the domain doesn't matter at all.

But, if you are using PPC or any other method where your visitor needs to
make decision to visit, your domain name is like an additional line of
advertising.

Forwarding can work, but it is not always the most effective method, again depending on how you are promoting.

You could create a website just to be accepted into the network, then once you are accepted, you should be able to add on other websites to the same account, so I wouldn't think it would be very essential, in the beginning.

Domains always have and always will play a crucial role.

Everything about your domain is important:
- length
- dash or no dashes
- brandability
- search engine keywords
- com? info? net? org?

I could probably write an ebook about that .. it's a very complex topic imo.
But don't waste all your profits on domains and don't register many domains on one day .. spread your renewal fee's ..
