questions about direct to merchant pay per clicks

I am told by my ppc guy that you can t do ppc unless you own the domain. So how are people doing direct to merchant pay per clicks? Isnt that just sending paid traffic straight to the vendors site ? Or do you still need a landing page for it as well. Can someone please clarify this ?

You can send traffic direct to a merchant. Many people prefer landing pages for more control over the sales funnel.

That is not true - you can direct link to the merchant. However often it is better to have your own landing page between.
