Can someone explain to me how PPV/media buys work? Does it invove having your own website ect.. I had PMed someone here who was promoting their company but he didn't get back to me thanks..

They are 2 different marketing strategies - PPV or correctly known as CPV is buying pop-up, pop-under traffic thru various CPV networks and you pay per impression on sites that you may or may not have control over as long as your keyword is in the query. Media buys is buying impressions for bulk for a dedicated source for a dedicated site or landing page.

Neither involve having your own website necessarily. Some people do both media buys and PPV and just send traffic directly to a merchant site through an affiliate link. You can also pop a network creative as a "landing page" and then have them click through that to the offer page.

| PPV traffic tends to get fewer leads/clicks than Media buy's or PPC( Google adwords advertising). The benefit of Media buy's is you can usually bargin over the price to have your spot on a particular site, it also can be a great traffic source especially if the site your promoting is in the same niche. Say for instance your promoting weight loss pills, if you can get a banner advertisement on a popular womens health forum, your campaigns are likely to get a lot of targetted traffic.
