Default good mentoring/coaching

Hi
Is there such a thing as good mentoring/coaching??
And what does it mean.

What are peoples' expectations when being mentored/coached?

What are people hoping to get out of it?

I am having 2 or 3 very different results from mentoring at the moment

Danny

Danny,

I have only coached on-to-one and noted that my students had varied levels of success. Some knocked the cover over the ball, some did ok and some...

The one variable that I cannot control is the student.

When I do accept more students, I will be highly selective in order to find the right match.

So my 2 cents from the other side of the coin is...

1. make sure the teacher and student compatible
2. make sure the expectations/requirements of both are clearly defined
3. make sure that student meets certain prerequisites (are they capable?)
4. make sure the success criteria are well defined

As much as I would like to personally help everyone make it big, that is just not realistic. So like my CPA campaigns, targeting is the key for one-to-one coaching!

Regards,

John

ps - I am working on a separate standalone course - no ETA yet, still determining level of interest and contents.

Agree with you 100% John. There has to be a clearly defined objective other than the usual, " I want you to make me rich " !

For me, a coach is someone who is successful in doing what I want to do. They will help me reduce the learning curve and avoid costly mistakes. Above all, they will help me make money when I follow their guidelines. Is that an unrealistic expectation?

Those are all reasonable expectations (and the most common ones).

Mikengo, that is quite right.

A bit like doing a round of golf with Tiger Woods, you are not going to be Tiger, but, it would be nice to have him tell you what club to use, and where to try and hit the ball, or what way the green is sloping, is it fast or slow ! If he was with you for the entire 18 holes, you know you would be better for it at the end.

the key to get from the student is have they been sold on th eget rich quick idea.

I think there needs to be a certain amount of learning and groundwork done by the student before they are ready for a mentor and change their mindset from - make me a millionare!!!

so much of my first six months was yep I am going to be rich - no cant be bothered to yep Im gonna be rich again.

once this hgas worked through and I unsubscribed from loads of sales pages and focussed things got easier

Yep, and just think, its just as hard if not harder to find a good student as a good mentor. A student isn't somebody who just does exactly what a coach tells them and thats it. If you just think about buying a domain and getting a hosting account, there are probably 50 little tiny steps involved. A coach or mentor needs to be able to just say, get a domain and hosting account and then the student has to figure little things out to get that done. It may involve calling godaddy and asking them a questions or two.

Coaching is supposed to be guiding people. Helping them get over humps along the way, NOT doing everything for the student. This is the mindset that I think a majority of newbies have and this is why its hard to find a good student.

my 2 cents

I have never had coaching.... but I have a good understand of most things... And have been able to find the info I need through research... and Time.... lots of time.

In my Mind, and I wouldn't expect at any time of day... also correct me if im wrong... If I were to have a mentor or coach i would expect to be able to pick up the phone and talk directly with the person.

Do you agree or disagree?

I've seen offers where someone says i'm taking on x amount of students bla bla... but only done through webinars at what not. Maybe that's why I have never taken coaching, sure I can type a question or ask my question...but if I were to take up some coaching or mentoring... i would expect to talk to the person first hand.

I've also been jumping back and forth about coaching or mentoring. I guess somehow I would love to be able to learn or interact with someone that has a much better idea of CPA and traffic tactics. In a way we are looking to build up some confidence.

I am certainly not a big fan of all those webinar style courses that have been popping up everywhere. In a way it seems like slowly feeding you the material so there is no time to request a refund if the material is not good enough.

Keep this in mind...every successful person has, or has had a coach/mentor at one point in time. Coaching works. You just have to pick the one that works best for you.

Interesting topic

The point is that I am also looking for a coach.
In the past years I tried several ways of making money online, but still not in the way I like to do it.
I really like to go on with CPA,the basics of IM I know already.
Just need someone to talk with and to discuss ideas and that kind of things.

If someone here is able to help me,I'm open to discuss and hopefully I will find someone who can help me.

The biggest problem of finding a good mentor/coach is who you can trust

There are many people telling they are a coach, but I doubt if you may call them coaches.

Looking forward to get your advice.

There's several things that keep bothering me around coaching and mentoring:

1) The salesletters / expectations made: many marketers offer private coaching or mentoring thru their salesletters, WSO's or email campaigns. Then they go on about how exclusive it is. But when you see the number of customers you start to ask questions...

How can you offer 'exclusive' coaching and "I'lll work with you till you succeed" when you just got 20 clients, all sucking time. (Of course I don't say 20 is a lot, it's about how the coaching is sold to prospects)

2) Discounts/Specials etc: coaching is something very time-consuming, very intensive. Whenever someone discounts it's own time, it tells me he's in need of money or doesn't really value his own time.

Tell me... when you're a millionaire, would you spend 10-20 hours per month on a client for the "special WSO price of just $297.95" (there are exceptions: those that do it for a good cause, helping others, sharing revenues with charities)

3) Coaching that isn't coaching: Be clear about what you offer. Many times I see 'coaching' sold while the only thing the customer receives is a set of PDF's, audio's and video's. THAT isn't coaching.

And like many other Warriors already posted, the main issue for good coaching is to talk about eachothers expectations.

I've always said the best way to get ahead in CPA is to get your feet wet and start grinding away without a coach. Learn the basics, learn the fundamentals. Start making some small amounts of money. This will make it much easier to find a coach who will coach you and take you to the next level. This will teach you to be a go getter and train you to solve problems on your own instead of turning to somebody for all the answers. A good coach doesn't want to provide you with all the answers, they want to guide you in the right direction.

Think about this. A person doing a few thousand bucks a day or more doesn't won't want to take on a newbie and start explaining to them for 10 hours what CPA stands for, what PPC stands for, and what a keyword is. It just doesn't make sense. The good marketers, including many on this forum, get numerous coach-me requests a day. If you want to spend 10k or more, then maybe a decent CPAer wont mind walking you from $0 a day to $1000 a day.

So, get your business going and then seek a coach to take your business to the next level.

My advice for what its worth.

My Idea of coaching is finding someone here in the forum....working out a separate deal for what the cost would be....

Not through a Course or an upsell.... to me that's bulls##t... the reason why I haven't taken any.

I agree with this... makes sense... know the game, somewhat... know the technical aspects and have an understanding of everything... If I were a coach in a specific marketing type like CPA, I wouldn't want to show my student how to build a landing page.... google can answer that question. People offer courses and guides for that kinda thing.

Ok
So this thread still running

Heres a few updated thoughts

I think there needs to be a two level approach to coaching

1 all the basics - open hosting account getting into cpa etc etc - this can be done by videos and if , yes thats right IF the student then completes these tasks they can move onto the next step.
All the sign ups are through your aff links etc so when they succeed you get somme ongoing profit.

step two how to set up some campaigns - landing page, url linking, keyword research etc.
again this can all be done by video.

so it would be easy to set up a two month programme with one check in at the end of the month with coach.

Then in month three the student gets going with one weekly check in with mentor and their LP's reviewed or keywords discussed - there could be a certain amount of email questions allowed per week.

It is at this stage when student has done the basics and ready to (if they ever get there and stop reading loads of sales letters!!!!)
It is now beneficial for both student and mentor to grow this business as the time put in is rewarded by growth for student and aff income for the mentor.

I know this may sound mean but most people are sold on the get rich quick scheme and really do not want to put in the hours. so some kind of progression is really helpful.

i know I bang on about this but a smaller private forum is always really helpful I am part of three very small invited forums and the info support from others is good - it just takes them time to answer as htey are busy working away or spending their mioney!!!

so there you go

Here is a message to noobs - you will never find a coach who will 'honestly' work with you from day one and make you a zillionaire in a few months or your money back!!!
If you was a making millions would you spend the time training a newb - NO!! you would set up a system that works and if they get through it works all round

cheers

that was a long post sorry guys
So there you go start a membership site and do the business in a box outlined above!!

cheers
