Hello, I've had a campaign going for a while and I just realized that I am bidding and getting a lot of commissions from a keyword that is restricted on the CPA network offer site. To clarify, the cpa offer has a short list of a few keywords that are restricted to bid on, whatever that means. And I am bidding on one of those keywords and consequently making a lot of money from it. How serious is this? Should I remove it immediately? How would they find out that I am bidding on it? Does anyone have any experience with bidding on "restricted" keywords? Thank you |

If it violates their TOS agreement with the Advertiser, worst thing would be they kick you out of the network. The second worst, would be not credit any of your sales for that campaign.

Alright, but how would they find out it was me? All my links are cloaked and go through a landing page.

Most advertisers routinely search for their restricted keywords and scope out the landing pages to see if any networks/affiliates are bidding for those keywords. I know networks always say "our affiliates are important to us" but that's complete bull, unless you're pushing $100,000+ per month they'll put any advertiser over you and ban you from the network.

Thanks for the answers I guess I'll have to give up that keyword then. Unfortunately it alone stands for 50% of the campaigns income, oh well ^^

| Are you in fact making money for the advertiser? I don't know why they would restrict certain key words, but they must have a good reason for it. It may very well be due to the fact that people looking for that term are not good prospects. I would have to guess that if people searching for that term were good prospects, that term would not be banned. It would be pretty stupid to stop your affiliates getting good prospects.

They restrict it because they themselves are bidding on it. By allowing you to bid on it, you are running up their advertising cost and denying them sales they would have received without you running up their cost.

In my case I don't know if they are bidding on it themselves but I haven't found any of ads from them so it doesn't seem like they do. And the prospects from that keyword should be very good so it can't be that either. And they shouldn't have any idea who is bidding on that keyword unless they somehow can get information from google about whos ad it is which I doubt they can. As you might have noticed I am really reluctant to give up the keyword since its bringing in so much money for me but it might be best to just move on hehe |
