Default Content Network - Clicks For Pennies

Well, maybe some of you have heard of this method. Basically, you find websites to put your Ad Placements on using the content network, and by making effective ads with good page placement, you can get great CTRs, all the while you're paying the CPM price (per 1k impressions), so you pay the same whether you get 1 or 100 clicks. I have a few eBooks on this method, and have been trying to make it work for the past few weeks.

Is this a valid method still? I get the impression that this was a valid technique about a year ago, but is it still? I'm finding that I can't get any impressions unless I pay at least $8 per 1k impressions. In the books I have, they say it should be no more than 2-5$, and even $5 is a lot for CPM.

I'm trying to focus on email submits, but I've spent about $50 so far with this technique, and not one conversion, and only a handful of impressions a day, even at those high CPMs.

Can anyone share their experiences with the content network for CPA? I'd just like to know if I'm wasting my time (and money) with this method, as the eBooks written on it aren't too recent.

Thanks!
