Default How do I know I can trust these CPAs?

It seems they all want my SSN (well, SIN in Canada) which means they can steal my identity anytime they want, or whenever a hacker gets into their database.

How do I know they can be trusted with this information? Why do they even ask for it? Is there a way around providing it?

Neither Google nor Amazon ask for that kind of information for their programs!

Hey .33,
I share your concerns about disclosing SIN. How do other Cdns. deal with this, I wonder?

The answer is that you can't ever know what will happen in the future. You have to take some chances in life.

Since I'm Canadian, I know that you are very concerned about this. In the USA, we are asked this info at every turn, we're conditioned to provide our number for just about everything (it seems).

So, you want to sell me another way to easily make "X" dollars in "X" days? ROFL too funny! IM success requires hard work and lots of time. Most newbies do not survive the steep learning curve. Anyone who says otherwise is probably selling you a fantasy.

The truth is no one can answer that question for you, you have to decide wether or not it's worth the "risk" for you, I live in Canada and i've been with a few CPA companies for over a year and my identity is still intact. Just stick to 3 or 4 bigger companies with a good reputation and go for it (if you want to make money using cpa offers that is).

Yes, like anything in life you take risks but always try and minimize the downside risk.

With this in mind, jsut apply to larger, more reputable, well established networks. Of course this doesnt guarantee anything but helps mitigate some of the risk.

And then of course if you are serious about this you can submit your EIN once you have formed a business entity. Many business structures have natural liability barriers.

When applying to a network i suggest researching before you apply if you are worried about your identity. Tell them your concerns upfront and explain to them why you are worried to put your SSN out there.

The bigger networks have a large affiliate database, in which they would never want to jeprodize their name or their reputation.

But not all networks ask for SSN. Many affiliates don't put in the real SS number on the application, rather they send it in when they submit their w9 and accounting info, just to ensure there legitimacy. As long as an affiliate is honest and answers all questions, there's no reason why you shouldn't get accepted.

We are eager to help all those who really want to help and enjoy this industry, but we have no tolerance for those fraudsters and spammers who just try to take advantage.

Let me know if you have any questions about working with networks or the safety of your identity, id be more than happy to help!

Thanks for all of your replies. I think I'll just leave it on the backburner for now and stay focused on the programs I'm already a part of.
