Default Olympics and CPA

Hey Everybody!

I dont regret much, but one thing I do is not preparing my CPA business to take advantage of the Olympics. Think about the scope and internet activity that is going to take place around the Winter Olympics this year. We are talking about a global event that people are passionate about...the potential is absolutely staggering.

My goal this week is to come up with a few campaigns to at least monetize this event with CPA in some fasion. But, my question to you is this...

Have you guys set yourself or your business up to take advantage of the Olympics...be it CPA or not?

Obviously you dont have to reval your exact strategy, but just curious how many people looked ahead and set themselves up to profit from the Olympics. My bet is that many Warriors will be making a killing these next few weeks!

I just haven't had the time. To busy with things as it is. I still have a day job and try to fit in my internet marketing efforts when I can. I am hoping to go full time this year though. My revenue is increasing every month so it is a realistic goal. Will run a few olympic related keywords through my Money word Matrix keyword tool and see what I can come up with. Perhaps I will write a few articles. Not sure how to monetize the Olympics with CPA.

Yes, the tough part is that your income will not likely be sustainable because the olympics will end and thus most of your traffic but you will get huge spikes of traffic and hopefully money for a few weeks at least!

Nice one! Found your thread. Well you know my angle cos im here in vancouver. Not a big fan of the whole IOC and VANOC, but if I can think of ways with making money with it I want to know lol! My game plan for the rest of you is CPA offers with lots of local marketing. Dont mind telling you cos I dont see that many other warriors being able to do that.

Ill be watching this thread closley!

Hey Ken

First off, I'm mainly a lurker, but always enjoy reading your posts. You offer a lot of encouragement and tips and your success is very inspirational. This one struck a cord though as a few friends and i are giving it a shot and targeting olympic hockey betting. You can see our site here: 2010hockeybetting.com

Its a bit of a shot in the dark, but for us, since we had a specific & fastly approaching date to target, it really helped avoid the typical procrastination and more so the constant overthinking & overanalysis that IM projects involve for me. I was employed for several years in the advertising dept of a major online gambling site (Bodog), but this is really my first foray on the affiliate side of it. I'm not sure if you've ever gotten involved in it, but it's an extremely lucrative market and with your keen mind, i'm sure you'd do extremely well. You can go with the quick cash (CPA up to $200 or so) or revenue share around 25-35% for long term stuff.

I'm actually in Vancouver and only a couple of blocks away from one of the Olympic sites so very much on the ground and looking forward to seeing how things go.

Ken, would welcome any thoughts or comments in regards to the site. I think the content is good, the site looks professional, but I really need to get more converting traffic.

Cheers man!

Dave nice site, I really like the layout. Would you mind sharing what theme that is or is it a custom one?

Hey Dave, yeah its amazing how an inflexible deadline like the Olympics can tremendously help you get things done. The great thing is that if this idea even works a little, you can really run with it and set yourself up for the future. IM is all about finding systems that works and thn running with it. If this sytem works for you, BAM, every two years you have tons of opportunity and will have more time to make the sites even better and more profitable next time.

And then think, if this works you can horizontally integrate using the same system such as targeting the World Cup, HUGE HUGE moneymaker and other large sporting events.

As for your site, give me an idea where you main income potential is...is it in the aff programs listed on the site? My next suggestion will be to better funnel your visitor to that action. Everything in your site design and content should be aimed at getting users to fulfill the action. Of course the art here is funneling visitors to your action indirectly or better put, in a not-so-salesy manner.

Good on you for testing this out and I see potential. Not very familiar with the betting world, but really do see potential. Good on you!

Colton - yeah, no problem, it's a theme called wooituts available from themeforest for 30 bucks. Not sure if you're familiar with themeforest but they have some absolutely sick themes on the marketplace generally priced from between $20-50. Also take a look at their sister site graphicriver for some standalone graphic goodies.

Kenster - yeah, wasn't expecting to hit the ball out of the park on this project but establish a system that could be easily replicated with larger sporting events. Also wanted to see how quickly we could gain search engine traction. We started the site about a month ago.

The plan is to transition the site to just general hockey betting post olympics to keep some sort of revenue flowing. As for world Cup betting - yeah, I've noticed a few sites specifically targeting it. Of course, there's also loads of sites targeting niche sports like cricket, rugby, aussie rules etc.

To answer your question, yes the main (well the sole) income is through the affiliate sites - specifically sportsbook.com and bodog. We're on a CPA model that is tiered, and starts at $125 per depositing signup. In addition to the banners, we've been trying to funnel less 'salesy' by dropping links in through articles. IE. see below.
Thoughts?

Btw if you have any specific questions regarding getting into betting affiliates, assuming you don't have any moral qualms, I'd be happy to answer. As i mentioned there's 2 models, cpa and rev share. When i was involved in the industry, i saw many an affiliate who had by chance referred a big fish to a site. Now with rev share, you take a % of their monthly losses. So imagine, you have 1 guy spending 50k a month on gambling. And now imagine you're getting 35% of their losses.....

Kenster,

Good idea with tying cpa and the olympics together. You can definitely make a lot of money by taking advantage of this opportunity. Interested to see how things pan out for you, Good Luck!

Dave, site it pretty good and I think you may have a good thing going here. Not sure how much traffic you are seeing quite yet, but try your best to optimize as much as possible before the games start and real traffic comes.

I would even test having your TOP THREE networks (and of course aff links) above the fold on the front page this way the user sees it immediately when visiting the page. I actually didnt even see it when I first visited the home page, it sort of blended in too much.

In general I may try approaching it like this...get the visitor to the page, thats obviously the most important step. Then when the visitor enters he sees your site has content (a good thing) and also sees your TOP THREE betting portals (he/she probably doesnt even know its an affiliate link). Then you can use the content to 1. make the site look more legit but very importantly 2. touch on the emotional triggers of the visitor. Get them excited about the potential of betting, really tap their emotional side here.

Then they will get excited and check out your links. Now youve done your job and hope the visitor converts on the offer page. A $125 a pop, you only need a handful a day to do okay!

Cool stuff though! Best of luck
