I've been on Twitter for about 2 years and in my experience i'm afraid its very unlikely that you'll manage to convert much if anything. There's all these great guides that say you'll make $1000's with it but I've never had any direct sales from it. I would say that you're better to spend your time optimising more profitable advertising methods. The only previous success I've had with it is to build email lists. No doubt there are other people on here who will claim to have made a packet from it. So maybe it's just me! Hope you do start to get some conversions anyway. Then you can tell me how to do it :-) |

It ain't just you, because twitter hasn't done much for me either. Twitter to me is basically like pulling names out of a hat, with all the tweets you'd be lucky if someone converts to a buyer or visitor, especially if your tweet isn't targeted. That's my experience at least.

| I never made more than a few clicks on Twitter, I mean for selling, no! It is too fast paced and people don't really have time to build real relationship there, and as you know people buy people not products.

you have to make sure your twitter followers are very targeted people in the field your looking to promote, and not just other people looking to sell their own products. Quality over quantity |

Whether its Twitter or Facebook or any other social network, if you want to use it for marketing purposes, you need to make sure your "list" of followers is laser targeted. Just having a huge following that's not interested in your tweets or worse yet having bots follow you is almost worthless. By laser targeted I mean something that matches or at least is close to the "double opt-in" quality of an email subscriber list. This calls for a sniper approach to building your follower base rather than a shotgun approach. There are few tools that can achieve this for you with the precision that I am alluding to. If you can figure this out, your conversions can only go up.

It's all about targeting the right offer to the right people. There's money to be made with every source of traffic, it's just a matter of finding it. Like Cody said, it's quality over quantity, which can be extremely hard when you have a tool with a mass audience like twitter.

That was damn right. You stole my words. I completely agree that the money is in building the list. For IM niches - I suggest give something away for free. An ebook or something in your niche - capture their e-mail. The answer definitely lies in E-mail Marketing especially with networks like twitter. |

I think the demographic is almost all kind of people, just like Facebook, however, is not easy at all to get targeted traffic, I would only use Twitter to build e-mail lists and promote some email submit CPA offers, nothing else.

It seems like twitter would be more useful for niche marketing... If you have a tight niche that you want to build some branding for... maybe build buzz for a product... things such as this.

If you are getting followers who are interested in what your doing then yeah it can be good. If your just following random people then it's pretty much useless unless you have a gagillion followers. I have close to 2k followers and I'm lucky to even get one click on any link I put out there, but that's just the result of getting crap followers.

While I used to think it was pretty worthless I've been surprised recently by some results I've seen from Twitter for product reviews, such as this one I did yesterday on Mr. Coffee Coffee Grinder Review. It got about 20 or so hits from Twitter and about 50% clicked through to an eBay listing or to the CPA banner offer. I had similar results on a different account where I was promoting a freebie CPA offer landing page. Overall, I think that there's some potential there but it's still in the early stages. I'd call it a supplemental traffic source right now. I think some people are beginning to search Twitter posts for links to product reviews and info and this number will probably grow. |

FB has become the same, I use it for PPC and have a fan page for traders which gets people to my blog and on my list.

| Twitter and any other social networking site offers very low quality of traffic. People are there to socialize, catch up and network ... not to buy things. Try Adwords, much better quality.

| My teenager claims that no one young (who is cool) is on Twitter. I'm not sure if that's true, but I do think the demographic is older vs younger.
