Default How Many Keywords Should You Bid On When Testing or Starting Out A Campaign?

Hey,

So I launched another campaign using Yahoo Search Marketing, and I threw in 1300 keywords. Should I reduce this number when starting out a campaign and testing it out? Also what should one's bid price be for the beginning stages of a campaign?

Holy keywords Batman. Aren't you afraid you'll have a lot of keywords that are only costing you money?

I don't have an answer. I've tried to start small, see if the really obvious good keywords are converting, if so, then expand. If even your best laid out keywords won't convert then you have other problems to fix before throwing everything you got at it. That's how I look at it, but I'm fairly new too and haven't tried it your way.

I had used around 5 broad keywords while started out my PPC campaigns along with CL marketing and it worked out good ROI.

The issue of keywords when launching a campaign is very mandatory because that will determine your level of success in your marketing campaign. Here is my advice for you;

What is the target of your campaign. Are you running a campaign to a squeeze page or an affiliate product or even a CPA offer. If you are running a campaign to an affiliate product to make sale, better omit some of the keywords with "free" because the visitor is getting there to get a free product and not paid one. So by the end of the day, if he/she gets there and discover it's a paid package; the next thing is to click on the close button.

I think 1300 keywords are too much, anyway i don't know the nature of your campaign. But my best bet is to use keywords generator tool like Google external trend. It will give you a better keyword ideas and the search volume of each keyword in the last and present month.

if you have a big budget then you can test more keywords, as long as you group them well into different adgroups
