Forum revenue?

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place. I'm new to all this.

So, I've learnt that it's possible to convert my free forum onto a paid host but I know it would be pretty costly to run it there. The forum gets around 1,000 unique hits/1500 posts a day. I currently can't make any money on it because the free host forbids it, hence I'm considering a move, but only if I could at least have the forum pay its own way. Would a forum that gets this much traffic be able to earn any ad revenue? If so does anyone know how?

My initial thoughts are yes. I would have to know the forum topic and how useful the posts are. If its a spam type forum then no.

I have heard that it is possible but that it is very difficult!
