How do Affiliate Managers make money?

Are they on a commission basis, where they get a chunk of each affiliate's earnings? If so, it would seem there would be a lot of luck involved, revolving around who gets assigned to which affiliates.

I'm just wondering how much of every dollar I earn for the company does the AM get to pocket, if any...

Yes, most of them earn on commission. That's why they keep trying to pressure you to push some offers.

They get a basic salary and bonus on top of what they bring in through their affiliates.

Base plus commission which is why they are on your team. The more you make, the more they make, that's why they want you to do well and that's why you should reach out to them for advice.

Yeah, that kinda motivates them to try and help you make as much money as you can... their commissions depend on that too !!

We do get nice base commission plus incentives and bonuses. Affiliate manager cannot complete his job in the right way without incentives...its the prize that motivates him to charge and concur new top affiliates.

It really depends on the network as far as how much of each dollar goes to their compensation.

Some networks have thresholds that AM's need to hit to be eligible for commissions, some networks base it off revenue while others base it off profit. Bottom line is the more money you affiliates make, the more the AM will make.

I wonder what happens to the manager if one of his affiliates is caught doing some blackhat stuff... is it taken as a company loss if they have already paid the affiliate?? (meaning that the advertiser may not pay the CPA network BUT the Network may have already paid the affiliate) or does it come out of the manager's commissions?

Good question and tough to give you one definitive answer, once again it's going to depend on the network and i think the "track record" of the AM as well as the monetary value of the loss would come into play when a network is making a decision like that.

If you have an AM that does not manage this accounts properly, turns a blind eye to shady traffic, and have stuff like this pop up consistently, the network may remove commissions to send a message to the AM.

If it's a one time thing, more times than not the network wouldn't take it out on the AM. But I'm sure every network is different.

As I own Convert2Media I pay my fulltime AM's a salary with benefits (401K, Health Insurance, Dental Care etc..) along with a sliding scale of % of net profits from their affiliates.

For my remote managers, they are independent contractors who make a set % on net profits at the end of the month. I apologize, I cannot state the exact amount %.

Agreed. Just keep in mind that each individual AM has limited resources (time) so they must therefore decide who to spend time helping and who they can't. Unfortunately they can't give everybody unlimited time to help them succeed...even in a commission based system.
