After doing a bit of media buying and some CPA offers, here is what I have learned. I hope this helps some new people that may have questions on it. I'm by no means a CPA expert (like Kenster who I believe is), but here is my take so far... 1. Getting Accepted by CPA Networks - People get hung up on this and seem to have a "fear" about talkign on the phone with these companies. Well, don't! Create a simple Wordpress blog/website with some content and put ADS on it. When you talk to the company, talk CPA terms like PPC, affiliate marketing, etc. Tell them you are ALREADY in with other networks like Neverblue, Maxbounty, etc. and that you would like to expand into other networks and you liked the company you are talking to. Talk the Talk. You will get in. 2. Keep It Simple - Match your CPA offer demographics as close as you can with the website you want to purchase advertising on (Media Buy). Use tools like Quantcast, Google Ad Planner, Google Insights For Search and Alexa. Don't advertise Insurance Ads on a site that has a demo of 18-21 year old girls for example. 3. Test, Test, Test - Rotate your ads if possible. Select 3-5 to rotate for testing. DON'T just use the creatives from the CPA network either. Make simple ads with text only, and big text, with a dotted outline. Simple and "ugly" can do wonders. Don't underestimate this. 4. Expect To Fail First - The chances of you having a winning campaign the first time you try a media buy is usually pretty small. You more than likely will lose some money so start with small media buys. Learn it. Get a feel for it. You don't have to blow the bank here, start small. Learn from your failures and remember, you will NOT always fail if you stick to it. 5. Lander or No Lander - The higher the CPA payout, the more likely you are going to need a landing page to help "presell" what they need to do. This is not always the case, but for the majority it seems to be this way. 6. Get That Email - If possible and if you are using a landing page, give something away for free in exchange for their email. Then you can CONTINUE to market to them via email. Of course, give them CONTENT mixed with CPA offers and even affiliate offers. Create a funnel and load your autoresponder with a message to go out every 7 days. Load it with multiple messages and then all you have to do is drive traffic to your funnel and let the rest of it take care of itself. Drop offers that don't convert in your emails, focus on the one's that do. 7. JUST DO IT - Stop asking all kinds of questions about how to do this process. Keep it simple as I pointed out above and go get your feet wet. The best education is in doing. If you still need more info on exactly WHAT to do, check out Kenster's guide on CPA and also, a fantastic ebook by Jordan Cash called "Rogue Marketing". Hope that helps Warriors. I'm still learning as well but this is the way I see things so far. Cheers! |

| Well, more learning than success. BUT, I have had luck with one small media buy so far with a dating offer. I tested 3 banners, one was a creative from the network, the other ones I made. The simple and plain text banner had the highest CTR. It is not making a LOT of money, but it is in profit thus far. Now I just need to move on to others and keep scaling up.

Yeah, I guess it's mainly about testing banners in ad space buys. I guess banners have to be eye catching and a little bit intriguing in order to provide a high CTR. You should try something striking just to see how it goes . Good luck.________ Lincoln Mark Viii Specifications |

Also, what type of "landing page" are you using? Are you just using a blog with junk/filler content and CPA banner ads? Or are you using a more graphical landing page (that looks like a bigger banner ad)? Or something else? Thanks, Johnny | |

Hi Dayne Dylan, Thanks for sharing. I esp like parts 2 - demographics matching - and 4 - expect to fail first Great stuff! If you can share more details on how you go about looking for these dating media buys that would greatly be beneficial. |

Start small. You don't have to find HUGE websites with loads of traffic and spend a lot of money to test. Find smaller niche related sites and contact them and see if you can do something like a 7 day test to keep your budget low. That will give you some time to test. If it works, then go all out with it and that site. If it works for that site, then find related sites, and simply scale up. Lately, I've switched my focus back to making infoproducts. I've realized with CPA you CAN make a lot of money short term, but offers drop and change. My real passion is creating solid info products that can sustain for years. |

That varies widely depending on the size of the site, the traffic, the webmaster, etc. Some site owners don't even realize how much their traffic is worth and you can get a good deal...maybe try it for $20 bucks or something for a week or two, even a month. Others, it may be more costly. If your offer pays out around $5 per lead, and you can get a trial for say 10 days at $25. You only need to convert 5 people to break even. It all depends on your offer as well. You might be able to do the same but with a $30/per sale and only pay $25 for a week or so, so you would only need to convert 1 time to break even. Bottomline, there is not one solid answer to your question. |

Thanks for that highly detailed explanation. I was just wondering how small you could actually go, and that pretty much answers my question. I'm trying to gauge whether you'd have to blow through thousands to find a winner, but I guess you really can't tell either way. ![]() Awesome post, by the way. Quote:

Very solid advice. Also, I noticed that most of your tips do not apply only for media buys, but for PPC and possibly PPV as well. If there were (there isn't) a secret behind making money with paid traffic, it would be this. I think that somebody who really understands these tips and has a good budget can start making a good income with paid advertising in a very short period of time. The problem is that many people read this, agree with what you say, but don't really understand what each tip means in the practice. For example, when you say "expect to fail first", people understand that they are likely to fail initially, but they still get very disappointed when it happens. So it's hard there is always a learning curve to go through. ![]() William |

Hi Dayne, Nice share . Very practical advise . But , there are two important points that you missed to address . 1. In addition to the demographic analysis , you need to study the quality of traffic the site gets. If the quality of traffic is very low , most probably you are not going to get good conversion . So , you need to diligently analyze and focus on sites that have quality traffic . For instance , if a certain site is getting most of the traffic from the search engine , which means you are going to get highly targeted traffic . As a result , you would get nice conversion . 2. You also need to carefully study the countries where the site gets most of its traffic . For instance , if your offer is available to UK audiences , you have to make sure that most of the traffic is coming from UK , not India or Malaysia . This is critical! My 2 cent tips . Mike |

Yes, very good points Mike. I guess I did not point those out as they seemed obvious to me and I should have included them. Of course, it makes sense to advertise on a site that has the kind of targeted traffic that usually or might take you up on your offer. Basically, do some demographic research on who visits the main offer URL. Look at ages, interests, etc. Then when you find a targeted site you may want to focus on, do the same research and try and match them up. It's not rocket science, but it does take a bit of research. 1. Pick an offer you like. (CPA or Affiliate). 2. Research potential sites. (I give you tools below) Also, one idea is to create your landing page or mini-site and run it on content networks at first related to your niche. Go wide. Eventually, you will see some results and find which sites are making conversions. Make note of those. Eventually, contact them and see if you can run your own ad for a monthly/weekly trial. This may cost you a bit of money up front to test, but the goal is to narrow down on the ones that work. One more thing, try and gather emails! Give something away. Then you can market other offers to them and be sure to also put something affiliate related within what you give them (free report, etc). Just don't force it down their throat. Soft sell it or recommend it. Give useful content! Of course if you are doing CPA, you may just be direct linking, so you may not have the chance to gather emails. Tools to use: - Google Insights for Search - Alexa - Affexpert - Quantcast - Compete.com Enjoy! |

In all honesty though, and this is just me, when it comes to Internet marketing...I think creating your own info products is the way to go for longer term online wealth. CPA can be a lot of work for short term gains (and they can be big, don't get me wrong). But why build a mini-site with CPA offers that will only expire in time vs. creating your own ebook with upsells (and gather emails) and just continue to grow the site and traffic (and the sales)? I guess each to his/her own. |
