I know with google adwords you are not allowed to tell the viewer of the website to click the ads. But with cpa, is it considered wrong to tell a visitor to enter his zip or email on the next page? Thought I'd make sure before starting new campaign. Thanks! |

I guess it really depends on why you are telling them to enter it..

I wouldn't see it as incentive.

It would be incentivized if you gave the user something to enter their zip.

As said earlier.. Depends on the reason.. If you are paying him something then its incentive and if he is receiving some goods like ebook in return than its fair.. |

If you give something to the visitor to enter a zip, then it's incentive - does not matter if its free or not. Example: I visit a website and need to type my zip to get access to a part (or all) of the content, then its incentive. Thats what I was told awhile back from one of the networks I use. | |

no, an incentive is providing a reason external of interest in the offer itself to get someone to complete an offer.

email is enough. zip codes can only fly away the visitors.

Why not try something like: 'Enter your ZIP Code to verify you are a human' Most visitors are used to Captchas and confirmation codes now, so teh above request could work. |

Telling the prospect what to do is NOT an incentive - it is a command. GIVING the prospect something in return for doing something is an INCENTIVE. The reason for ZIP submit offers is based on psychology. It is the one of the easiest actions that you can get a prospect to do. Think about these scenarios and which (a or b) will get more action: a. asking a prospect to fill out a long (30 fields) form and submitting a credit card b. asking a prospect to fill out a long (30 fields) form a. asking a prospect to fill out a long (30 fields) form b. asking a prospect to fill out a short (10 fields) form a. asking a prospect to fill out a short (10 fields) form b. asking a prospect to enter their full name, phone, and email address a. asking a prospect to enter their full name, phone, and email address b. asking a prospect to enter their first name and email address a. asking a prospect to enter their first name and email address b. asking a prospect to enter their email address a. asking a prospect to enter their email address b. asking a prospect to enter their zip code a. asking a prospect to enter their zip code b. asking a prospect to click a button or link As you can see, "b" will get more action than "a" in all of the scenarios. Also notice that as you descend through the scenarios that the next lower scenario will get more actions that the preceding because it is easier and less personal. You will get more actions by asking for a zip code than you will asking for a short or long form submit. Are there exceptions? Yes. A long form with a highly relevant, highly desired offer with great ad copy can outperform a less relevant short form, email or zip submit with crappy ad copy. But in general, there is a hierarchy. The more information (and the type of information) you ask for; the lower the response. So the zip code submit offer psychology is to get them to do a little more than click a button but not ask for any personally identifiable information. Once they respond, you get them to take the next step - get their email address. Then get them to make a small purchase. Then get them to make a larger purchase. Then make more purchases... Hope this helps. John ps - When selling online, you DO want to tell the prospect what to do and make it as easy for them to do it as possible. Think "path of least resistance". Make it easy for them to do what you want them to do. |

I don't think so at all, your simply telling them what to do. If you award them something unrelated to the zip for entering it, then yes.
