Default EPC's Explained?

Hi
I just got a list of EPC's for different campaigns.....

EPC: $0.96

EPC: $0.59

EPC: $0.56

EPC: $0.50
EPC: $0.49

These were provided by mt AM (not from their website) and I've left out the campaign names.

Can someone please explain why these are important to me, and how I would use this information for my benefit?

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi WantBetter

As I understand it that's the figure you would earn per click if you were advertising that campaign. So to make sure you were in profit you would have to make sure you were spending less in advertising each campaign than the EPC figure.

i.e for the last one epc $0.49 if you were advertising that on a pay per click basis on say adwords and you were advertising tightly within your niche you would want to be paying less than .49c per click or you would be losing money. The EPC of .49c is what the network has seen to date for that offer, I guess your results may differ but its a guide.

This is what I use as a marketing plan on my site you may be interested in giving it a try.

If I am correct, originally epc stood for earnings per 100 clicks with the C being the roman number for 100 / where it turned into cp click over and above cost per 100 clicks i am not sue. ? maybe it was always cost per click ?

I believe you are thinking about CPM (Cost Per Mille) which is the cost per 1,000 views. EPC is earnings per click and its exactly that. Its what you are going to earn each time someone clicks your ad. $.96 is actually a really good EPC and you could make some decent money on it if you have a lot of traffic and the right kind of traffic.

Anymore questions let me know!

Assuming this is from a CPA network then these EPC's are the average earnings per click across the network.

These numbers can be vastly different then the EPC that you will end up getting on the offer because of all the different ways affiliates promote any one offer.

Typically you can use EPC's to see which offer is the best out of a certain category but even then I suggest split testing to find out for yourself.

You can use these EPC's to get a rough estimate as to what you can pay per click and still be profitable but remember it's just a rough estimate as whatever your EPC is will likely be different then the networks as a whole.

The EPC is not very important. Probably, the numbers that you have are the earnings per click of the enitre network, and there can be affiliates promoting those offers with many different traffic sources. Of course, a high EPC is good, since it means that probably the offer converts.

However, for more accurate numbers you should ask your aff manager more info about other affiliates promoting those offers with your traffic source. Ask if they are performing well, if their EPC is good, conversion rate, etc...

As williamrs said in his post... Make sure you talk to your AM about EPCs because you shouldn't really go by the "Network EPC" - it's skewed a lot of the time. The reason is because you have all different types of traffic being thrown at the offers; PPV, PPC, Organic, Etc... I have seen affiliates blast 3,000 clicks at an offer with no results and this is obviously going to lower the "Network EPC".

You are much better off talking with your AM... Let him/her know what type of traffic you will be sending and ask for the EPC of another publisher on the network running similar traffic. Set that number as your 'baseline' and you can work from there.

No No No... You have it all wrong. It stands for "Every Pucking Conversion".

Right?
