I've been having a bit of success with Incentivized CPA offers using "gateway widgets" and I wanted to share some tips and tactics.

I've written an extended guide which you can download for free – NO opt-in required.

You may find this guide useful if you're a newbie or intermediate internet marketer or have been struggling to earn a decent income online.

These are "White-Hat" techniques that won't get your account banned for breaking a Network's TOS – as happened recently on one major network.

I actually managed to achieve an average of $50 to $100 a day after several weeks of extensive testing. And I tested everything from using different widget designs; to different colors; to different wording – all the way to different offer types and networks.

I tested over 48,000 Click-Throughs and got over 4,000 Leads. So the tactics and strategies I write about are quite solid.

TRAFFIC

Like any website on the Internet, you obviously need traffic for this method to work. And though the guide is not about traffic generation, I briefly highlight ten ways to get traffic.

CONTENT

Content still reigns – and although this method works very well with movies – there're other types of content you can use with this method.

GATEWAY SETTINGS

Setting your gateway widgets correctly from the start can have a dramatic impact on your earnings. The one setting that has the biggest impact is the actual widget's display "Formula".

ROTATING WIDGETS

This is a real biggie. You should always split-test or rotate at least two widgets at a time. This isn't anything new. Split testing has been preached since the dawn of direct marketing.

TESTING

Again, there's nothing new here. You should always test different widget designs, wording, headlines, colors, etc. I've actually found that some colors work better than others. RED seems to scream "Warning!". As you might imagine, a visitor who sees your gateway widget for the first time may not be motivated to complete an offer or survey after thinking they just got a "warning".

INCREASING CONVERSIONS

Increasing your conversions literally means more money for you – and with the same amount of traffic. There are quite a few things you can do to instantly boost your conversions including adding what are called "Trust Icons" to your gateway/widgets.

Hi Tanner88,

Just tested the link and it's working fine. What browser are you using?

The file is in ".ZIP" format and is accessible via a PHP script file.

Depending on the browser, you can just Right-Click/Short-Cut-Click the link and select "Save Link..."; "Save Link As...", or "Save As...".

Of course, you can also just click the link normally and the file will be "force downloaded" (ie: a Pop-up window will appear asking you where you wish to save the file).

I use FireFox; but Internet Explorer and other browsers basically download files the same way.

Let me know if you're still having problems.

Hi Tanner,

Everything I learned about FB marketing I learned from Ryan Deiss & Perry Belcher. They had a course some time back called FB Ad power. It was pricey - at around $200, but well worth the cost IMO. But, I'm sure there are other courses for much less.

Advertising on FB isn't anything above and beyond an average marketer's skill set. It's basically display/banner advertising.

You create a small Google-like Ad and link it to your landing page. The great thing about it is that you can use an image/graphic. And it's the image that has the biggest impact on click-through rates.

Now, I'm not suggesting that advertising there is "as easy as apple pie". FB is very strict. Stricter even more than Google. Also, folks there aren't exactly looking to buy stuff. So, offers that go to a "squeeze page" or a "buy me now!" page don't do so well.

What works very well is simply advertising your offer, taking the visitor to a landing page where you deliver what you promised; then from within that page you include a link with your "call to action" (i.e. "Click Here to learn more!").

My ads on FB are formatted this way and it works very well. My landing pages are all simple, with information "above the fold", and ZERO distractions (no extra ads, navigation, etc.). Aside from the "Call to Action" link or image, the only other link on my pages is the one to my Privacy Policy - which opens in a new window and has a soft text-color like gray.

For offers I advertise on FB that use gateways/widgets, I'm testing the use of offering both "locked" and "unlocked" content. And am also testing using transparency notices (ie: posting a notice to let visitors know an offer/survey completion is required).

I actually write about this latter thing in the ebook.

By the way, all the above regarding FB ads is applicable to any type of affiliate and non-affiliate marketing.

Now, the one platform that I've found that works even better than FB (at least for me) is PPV. Don't get me wrong, FB is perfect if you want to zero in on your target demographic. And if your profit margin is high, then FB advertising is well worth it.

The thing is that not all gateway/widget incentivized cpa offers are high. A small amount pay more than $10. Another small amount pay mid range: about $4 to $6+. The majority pay less than $4 - even less than $1.

Yes, there are incentivized cpa offers that pay upwards of $30 - but those are few and far between. And those are either "Trial Offers" or "Purchase Offers" - which are more difficult to complete than "Surveys" or "One-field Submits".

So, like with all marketing - you have to know your numbers... and continuously test.

When testing some cpalead related offers on FB - I was actually breaking even. That's because I found that my target audience wasn't too willing to complete many of the high paying offers for the content I was providing. And what I was paying per click on FB for the traffic did not allow me to get profitable.

When I switched to PPV, my campaigns became profitable because the traffic was "Dirt Cheap" as they say.

This is not to say that you'll get the same results with FB or PPV. Like I mention in the ebook - a lot depends on your content.

For example, targeting young adults on FB with the "Twilight" movie screen-savers will get tons of traffic - but not many will complete the higher paying surveys or offers.

Targeting middle-aged men who invest in the stock market with a free investment ebook will return completely different results.

Again, this is marketing - so you should always be testing to see what works.

Lastly, one thing I forget to mention in the ebook is that you should also monetize your "locked" content pages with Adsense (or similar). Doing this by itself will earn you additional cash on a monthly basis.

When a visitor finishes consuming your content - they'll eventually leave. Providing adsense on your pages will at least give you the chance to earn additional income when they exit.

Traffic is only one part of the equation. A whole bunch of traffic to an offer that does not convert will make one zero income.

A reasonably converting offer with NO traffic will get you the same results.

So, the real key is both Traffic PLUS Conversions.

As far as getting traffic being the hard part - well, I'll agree that I used to think that a long time ago - but not anymore

I *think* that sadly, most online marketers have been conditioned to believe that.

But if you really think about it... TRAFFIC is everywhere.

-It's on Google and other Search Engines...
-It's on Facebook - which, by the way, gets more traffic on a monthly basis than Google...
-It's on Twitter and other Social Media sites...
-It's on YouTube...
-It's on Forums like this one...
-It's on Article Sites like EzineArticles...
-It's on Banner & Rich Media Networks like AdsDaq, Burst Media, etc. - which when added together are HUMONGOUS
-It's on Content Networks like Google's, AdBrite, Bidvitiser, etc. - which are also HUGE
-It's on Pay per View networks like Media Traffic, Ad On, etc.
-It's... all over the place

All one has to do is learn how to use a particular traffic medium and then start juicing it - "till the wheels fall off".

I personally find these widgets a pain as when I'm searching for something I don't like filling in surveys to get what I'm after, and I found out a while ago that these widgets can be disabled by temporarily turning off javascript.

However, I can see that there are obviously many people using this technique and profiting from it, and any additional income streams are always welcome.

Hi Rob,

I've gotten my fair share of complaints for locking some of my content. What I have found to be helpful is offering a good balance of Free, Unlocked content in addition to "Premium", Locked content. In this way, you can keep visitors coming back to your site for months on end.

And it is true that some folks will find them annoying... just as well as it is true that some folks will be more tolerable. It depends on a visitor's perspective. This is why I encourage folks to offer *Valuable* content.

As far as disabling them by turning off javascript... Yes, that can happen as well. CPALead has some additional scripting you can add that redirects a visitor to another page if javascript is turned off. So, one can just add those additional lines of code to their widget pages if that's a concern.

Be that as it may, I've found that most of my visitors simply lack the web savvy to disable javascript.

If you want to add widgets to your already existing site, run a Test first and keep a close eye on revenues, bounce rates, number of pages visited per visitor.

When I first started using them, I was already making a decent income with Adsense. As soon as I added the widgets, the number of pages visited per visitor decreased. Obviously because a number of pages were "Locked".

My adsense earnings decreased as well... but the income from CPALead was 4 to 5 times as much. Not only that, but my earnings with adsense were still decent.

So, be sure to test them out first and decide for yourself if they're worth the page

Hi Adam-Victoria,

I cannot answer that question from a legal standpoint as I'm not a lawyer. However, I kind of understand where you're going.

Regarding this type of content - there's always the good, the bad, and the ugly.

The Good is that you can make a lot of money with movie and tv content.

The Bad is that you can get banned from the networks.

The ugly is that you can get sued.

Now, you can go out of your way and host overseas and play the cat and mouse game to maybe avoid legal issues. But it's only a matter of time until the networks do an audit, discover that you're breaking their TOU, and ban you.

You can also try to circumvent any issues by just "linking" to the content - but, unfortunately, this too may get you banned.

IMHO you can make a good amount of money - and for the long term - just using plain content that folks are searching for.

You just have to think "outside the box".

By the way, movies and tv shows aren't the only video content that can make money. Any short instructional video that teaches a hot topic can literally have the same effect as a movie or tv show.

Hi Tanner, Everything I learned about FB marketing I learned from Ryan Deiss & Perry Belcher. They had a course some time back called FB Ad power. It was pricey - at around $200, but well worth the cost IMO. But, I'm sure there are other courses for much less. Advertising on FB isn't anything above and beyond an average marketer's skill set. It's basically display/banner advertising. You create a small Google-like Ad and link it to your landing page. The great thing about it is that you can use an image/graphic. And it's the image that has the biggest impact on click-through rates. Now, I'm not suggesting that advertising there is "as easy as apple pie". FB is very strict. Stricter even more than Google. Also, folks there aren't exactly looking to buy stuff. So, offers that go to a "squeeze page" or a "buy me now!" page don't do so well. What works very well is simply advertising your offer, taking the visitor to a landing page where you deliver what you promised; then from within that page you include a link with your "call to action" (i.e. "Click Here to learn more!"). My ads on FB are formatted this way and it works very well. My landing pages are all simple, with information "above the fold", and ZERO distractions (no extra ads, navigation, etc.). Aside from the "Call to Action" link or image, the only other link on my pages is the one to my Privacy Policy - which opens in a new window and has a soft text-color like gray. For offers I advertise on FB that use gateways/widgets, I'm testing the use of offering both "locked" and "unlocked" content. And am also testing using transparency notices (ie: posting a notice to let visitors know an offer/survey completion is required). I actually write about this latter thing in the ebook. By the way, all the above regarding FB ads is applicable to any type of affiliate and non-affiliate marketing. Now, the one platform that I've found that works even better than FB (at least for me) is PPV. Don't get me wrong, FB is perfect if you want to zero in on your target demographic. And if your profit margin is high, then FB advertising is well worth it. The thing is that not all gateway/widget incentivized cpa offers are high. A small amount pay more than $10. Another small amount pay mid range: about $4 to $6+. The majority pay less than $4 - even less than $1. Yes, there are incentivized cpa offers that pay upwards of $30 - but those are few and far between. And those are either "Trial Offers" or "Purchase Offers" - which are more difficult to complete than "Surveys" or "One-field Submits". So, like with all marketing - you have to know your numbers... and continuously test. When testing some cpalead related offers on FB - I was actually breaking even. That's because I found that my target audience wasn't too willing to complete many of the high paying offers for the content I was providing. And what I was paying per click on FB for the traffic did not allow me to get profitable. When I switched to PPV, my campaigns became profitable because the traffic was "Dirt Cheap" as they say. This is not to say that you'll get the same results with FB or PPV. Like I mention in the ebook - a lot depends on your content. For example, targeting young adults on FB with the "Twilight" movie screen-savers will get tons of traffic - but not many will complete the higher paying surveys or offers. Targeting middle-aged men who invest in the stock market with a free investment ebook will return completely different results. Again, this is marketing - so you should always be testing to see what works. Lastly, one thing I forget to mention in the ebook is that you should also monetize your "locked" content pages with Adsense (or similar). Doing this by itself will earn you additional cash on a monthly basis. When a visitor finishes consuming your content - they'll eventually leave. Providing adsense on your pages will at least give you the chance to earn additional income when they exit.
