Default My CPA Journey

Well folks it's official. My first week in the CPA world is complete, the numbers are in, and I've crushed my initial goals!

I started the week off by quickly building a simple site on a free hosting service. I've since migrated to wordpress and expanded the site considerably (still LOTS more to do though). So far most of my traffic has come from free classified ads but the organic search traffic is starting to come as well.

I'm targeting keywords with between about 3k and 6k searches per month with very low competition. So with next to no SEO work done my site is already ranking on the 1st or 2nd page of google for several of my keywords.

The result of all this work is: $162 in earned commissions.

That's about $23.14/day. So my initial goals of $1/day and $10/day are history. Next stop: $100/day!

So far, I don't have 1 single student who has tested 5 or more campaigns without finding at least 1 winner. And I intend to keep this success rate.

Mark P, no courses. I've tried many of the things talked about on this forum and eventually found one or two things that work for me.

williamrs, I hear ya! I spent 18 months learning how to drive traffic to adsense sites. Finally went over the $100 payout last month LOL!

Kenster, thank you for your excellent and inspirational posts!

Jordanberg2311, my first adsense click was 0.70 and I remember having the same feeling you describe

Week #2 and I have another $80 in my account. The downside for this week was less overall traffic and a lower conversion rate. The upside was that it looks like my site's position in the search rankings is maturing a bit so that should lead to a long-term steady flow of business.

I also added an opt-in so my list is growing at about 3-4 people a day. These are very targeted so should convert well on certain offers for another little long-term income stream.

I have no doubt that anybody who is serious about making money online can use the information on this forum ALONE to build a six figure business by next year. Of course the hard part isnt the knowledge, which most of us have, its the ability to turn that knowledge into money. Its about taking action and implementing that knowledge.

Most methods are basic and simple and revolve around the core principles of marketing. You just need to think big, work hard, and be creative. Most people can do 1 or 2 of those things but you need all 3 to build a six and sever figure online business.

Only free traffic sources at this point. Classifieds, SEO, and a few articles to be exact.

mlord10, the usual suspects: craigslist, backpage, oodle, kijiji etc. All the ads go to a blog that currently has about 20 pages of content. Each page gently encourages visitors to make use of the free offer and also gives them the opportunity to opt-in to my mailing list.

Thanks for the response. That sounds like a really good strategy and it seems that you are making great progress. I won't ask your niche, but what types of offers are you promoting on your blog (zip/email submits, 1/2 page submits with a little higher payout, or higher paying trial offers?)

Thanks for all of the info!

A trial offer with a freebie that people REALLY want in the niche I'm targeting. This is the highest paying offer I can find for the niche, unfortunately it does require a CC submit.

Yeah so far things are working out. I just have to figure out how to ramp up the traffic so I can start making some real money!

Yep traffic is the life of any online business! I have read some horror stories about CPA accounts being banned because people sent traffic via classified ad sites (primarily Craigslist).

However, I guess if you direct them to a landing page then there would be no issues correct?

Well done man... now, whatever you've been doing, focus on scaling it. Don't get distracted by shiny new things, don't even worry about other channels. Chances are, there is a way to scale what you're doing currently. So, do what you've been doing, just do more of it.

If you are referring to directing the CL traffic to a landing page, thats a very gray area. If its a traditional CPA landing page, the network may still not accept the traffic. Check out Craigslist For Marketing CPA? for more info.

You are spot on that traffic is the heart of any online business. If you have abundant traffic (free) you can make money. If you have targeted traffic, you can make money. If you have abundant targeted traffic, you will be wealthy. Consquently, traffic is also the difficult part and challenge of any online business. Sure you can buy traffic, but then you need to cover your margin. And free traffic isn't easy either. So really the study of online marketing shold focus on the study of traffic. Master a traffic source (any traffic source) and you can find a way to monetize it!

Great post Kenster. What I meant in my earlier post about directing CL traffic to a landing page was to setup a one-page review type site where you talk about the product/offer and post that webpage in your ads. Then from your review page link to the actual CPA offer where the person fills out a form or signs up for a free trial.

Do you think this is still risky? Wouldn't the traffic referrer then be the review site and not CL?

Thanks for all of your contributions and valuable insight!

Your direct referrer would be but some networks would still consider this "too close for comfort"

Some affiliate networks will be fine with this but yuo may have to put your offer page a bit deeper, either by doing a listbuilding campaign from CL and then upselling in future email campaigns or directing people to a landing site from the email. Or just put a few more layers in your funnel.

See, a lot of this process will be determined by the networks and affiliate networks you are working with and your risk tolerance. In general, the longer your sales funnel, the less you will make, but its a necessary process sometimes. So the trick is finding that balance!

Yep but the previous poster will likely not be satisfied because a paint by numbers, step by step guide is impossible for most strategies. CPA marketing strategies are normally based on a methodical and formulaic foundation but there is also a subjective factor and unknown variables with most campaigns that cant be put into a step by step format.

But then again, if it were that simple that everything can be put into a sufficient step by step guide then the guide wouldnt exist because people would just outsource the formula and make millions.

Great job, great job. If you keep going you can really make this into a full-time living.

Just want to clarify, are you using your own domain now? You say you migrated to a wordpress blog, so you are talking about a wordpress blog on your own domain, right? If not, and you are using a free wordpress blog, it will most certainly get taken down as they do not allow commercial blogs that are there to make money.

Just wasn't sure, wanted to clarify that and also for any others. Seen it happen time and time again. Everyone, get your own domains! They're cheap.

But anyway, fantastic work you've done, here.

I am assuming it was a self-hosted wordpress site (the OP can confirm) but you are absolutely right.

Setting up a wordpress blog on your own domain is super simple these days. If you are using any of the major hosting companies, you can literally set it up with two clicks of your mouse. Fantastico chica yeah!!!

If anybody needs help with this at their specific host just do a search for "wordpress installation + hosting company" on youtube and you can probably find a walk through.

Jeffery, where do I sign?

redicelander, you are correct. My own hosted wordpress blog, not a wordpress.com blog.

My third week is all neatly tied off and accounted for. It was a disappointing week in terms of sales with only $20 earned. This was due to a 3-fold hit: Less visits, lower CTR, and fewer conversions. Not sure what the big difference is from the previous 2 weeks, maybe it has something to do with vacation ending and everyone getting their kids ready for school.

On the plus side it was a big week for opt-ins with my biggest day adding 30 new souls! Beautiful!

All of this has been quite a learning experience. I'm slowly getting a better feel for my chosen traffic source. Learning what I can and cannot get away with. What works. Where the saturation point is where more marketing actually means less return.

I'm starting to see many other opportunities within this one traffic source, some of which will likely turn out much MUCH bigger than what I'm working on right now.

And to think...the longer you pursue your strategy, the more effective and efficient you will be. Thigns normally start out slow as you learn the ropes, learn what does work, and learn what doesnt work.

Keep building your list, if you can get a steady 50 a day, thats the start of a nice solid income stream you should incubate!

Keep plugging away buddy! Its soo exhilarating and such a rush what you start to see something with potential grow!!! I love it
