Default Best site for publishers? Google? Adbrite?

I'm looking for a good CPC site. I heard Adbrite offers more diversity in selecting the ads displayed on your site. Are there better alternatives to Google for publishers?

Why don't you promote CPA offers? Join some good CPA networks and talk to your affiliate managers, they will certainly help you find some offers that are peforming well with your audience.

I don't know whether it's just me being naive due to lack of experience but I always thought cpa would have less of a roi because people are more click happy and don't mind clicking a link out of curiosity but think twice when it comes to providing personal information or buying something unless there's a pretty convincing pitch behind it.

My site is more of a social networking site and isn't reviewing / selling anything. I'd appreciate your 2 cents if you still think I'm on the wrong track here.

Would anyone else like to add their 2 cents here? It would be nice to have more than one take on this. Much appreciated if you do.

Thanks for your input. Can you elaborate on what you meant by "serious"? I'm quite curious about that.

Perhaps he meant that if you plan to create an establish authoritative site with unique content or a highly personal blog, go with Adsense.

For PLR sites, autoblogs, site created in 10 minutes, etc....use Adbrite.

You could also try Chikita and Admedia.

Thanks, I'll look into the other ones as well. I was told that you can choose which ads to display with Adbrite (which sounded like a good feature). Can anyone confirm if this is true and if there are any pro's or con's to using one over the other?

If things really worked this way nobody would be advertising on your site. If when you add the AdSense code to your site ads start being displayed it means that other people are making money on the other side.

People will supply their information or even buy something if you offer them exactly what they want. I make my money promoting CPA offers with paid advertising and I can guarantee to you that you can make more money with CPA if you find offers that fit your audience.

Adsense is paying you for those clicks because someone else is paying them.

Figure out how the ads on your Adsense block are making money (a lot of the times, they are CPA offers) and cut out Adsense and run the offers yourself.

Adbrite are good but the only problem with them is their net 60 payment of commission. That too only by check. I have read good reviews about their payment of commission too. They are reliable and in a way yes, they can substitute google to a certain extent.

Thanks for the input guys. I have a couple of questions. Can you run Google and Adbrite ads on your site together or is it against the rules? Do you have any recommendations for good CPA sites?

That's given me some food for thought. I need to study up on CPA, I thought that's what sites like Clickbank did and they only offer good commission on IM related products which doesn't really fit in with my site.

You can run any combination you would like, it's not against the Adsense TOS to have other ad networks running at the same time..... unless you start mixing in ads that are against the TOS such as gambling, firearms etc. Then you may run into probs.

I run a few advertising sites with a mix of networks and some CPA offers thrown in as well. Get yourself an ad server, OpenX is a good free one, then you can create your own custom campaigns with a mix of advertising sources.

You can even break it down to a geo level if you want, so you can show a great CPA offer to your UK users, Adsense to USA or a combo of all etc. Or even go further and break it down on a per category, per page or even per keyword trigger basis. The sky is the limit once you have your own ad server.

Cheers

Is the OpenX ad server something I would use to combine and enhance cpc / cpa sites or is it a stand alone product that I'd use along with the rest? I'm not sure where the free ad server is located on the site as they sell quite a few products. It sounds like a really good idea though. Thanks for the heads up on that.

No worries xaron, you're welcome

The adserver will simply allow you to mix and match advertising from various networks (Google, Adbrite, CPA etc)

To start with, go with the community hosted option so you don't need to setup your own web server: Serve ads quickly. Make money easily. | OpenX

If things go well then you can download and host your own Open X server. Let me know if you have any questions

Cheers

What is the difference / advantages between a shared server and your own server? William said CPA was better than CPC but it sounds like you're mixing it up. Do they have stats on what works if you have various types running or would you have to check with the individual ad sites? Many thanks.
