I've been trying to set up a few landing pages but it seems every time I do a search for keywords, all of the good ones are taken.

How do you guys get around that?

Or you could promote the same ones as everyone else. Just promote them BIGGER and BETTER.

All the good keywords are NOT taken. And if they are, that just means you have some competition. In reality, competition is always better than trying to target something like "pink cat sweaters". You could get all the traffic in the world for that phrase, but would you actually really get any traffic? (or conversions for that matter).

DIG DEEPER. If the niche just has you baffled, then try another one. Do some brainstorming.

Are you talking about SEO? If so, you just need to follow the advice of the warriors above: find more specific terms and beat the competition.

Competition will be there regardless the method or traffic source that you choose. There are guys competing for good keywords on the organic search just like there are guys bidding high for them on the paid side. If you want to make money you can't be afraid of dealing with competition.

Things are by nowhere near saturated at all and new opportunities present themselves all the time.

There are millions of keywords out there. Just because other people are bidding doesnt mean these keywords are taken...it just means there is competition. For obvious keywords, there will be lots of competition but that in itself doesnt mean you cant make money. If other people are paying for the keywords on a regular basis I would assume they are making money or else they would have dropped that keyword.

You can either directly compete which is fine if you know what you are doing or look at less competitive keywords which will generally have less volume but can be equally as profitable.

Keyword strategy and research is one of the tougher things you will do but ultimately if you track, the statistics wont lie. Dont think you cant make money with a keyword just because there are many other people bidding on it!!

The low hanging fruits are more competitive - that's where I would stop.

The low hanging fruits still exist but with a bit of added competition than maybe 3-4 years back (when I was not into IM, lol), and most of the other fruits still hang high up, waiting for a good set of high-jumpers to catch and cherish them.

It takes time to rank high in Google when there's competition for a keyword you want to rank for.
But sometimes you have to think out of the box. If you want quick results, than choose new keywords. Follow trends and new products. When Apple made the name of their tablet public, Ipad, a new keyword was born. These new keywords are easily to rank for.

Hey Johnny,

What tools are you using for research? My favorite is Market Samurai, followed closely by the Google External Keyword Tool.

Take a look at the training videos from Market Samurai, the ones on Keyword Research. They are very good. You can find them right here:

Even if you are not going to use Market Samurai take a look at the videos as they layout some ideas and methods they recommend.
