Today I saw an ad on facebook that is pretty much exactly what I was searching for on Google a few times over the past month or so. I have never seen an ad like this before and it's too relevant to just be showing up randomly in the ad selection. So the question is, does Facebook somehow pull info from your browsers history or anything to that nature?

Probably not, but if it's something you "like" or are a fan of, FB marketers (ie, affiliates!) can target that to show you an ad that you would likely have a response to.

Yes, I know that. I have no interaction whatsoever with anything even closely related to this. No traces at all. I wouldn't be surprised if they do something like that and keep it under wraps. Or it could be in small print somewhere in a policy statement. Who knows.

Maybe you haven't joined a group or fan page for that specific subject, but but chances are that there is something that it a bit related in your interests. I've found out (while creating my own campaigns) that creativity is very important when choosing interests, so good marketers try to target not only things that are directly related to what they are advertising, but also things that use to have the same audience/demographics. Hey William, I agree also, but I'm serious when I mean that their is absolutely nothing even remotely near that I have liked or dealt with on Facebook. Heck I've only liked 2 pages or so.

The only other thing I can think of is that it's some sort of retargeting campaign.

How long have you had your FB page? I'm guessing at least 5 years or so and its just possible you hinted that you were interested in that subject several years back and have forgotten about it. I know I still receive ads from something I placed in my interest box years ago and have since deleted.

No, facebook cannot pull information from your computer like what you are suggesting. It's probably just a random add put into circulation. Advertisers, whoever, can advertise more remotely based on your "likes" and "interests" so it could have been about that. Or your age, location, and other factors that you entered on facebook attracted that company.

This has happened to me too though. I visit certain ads and then they end up showing up on my StatCounter panel. I forgot exactly what this was, but Shoemoney was explaining it one time. Can't remember exactly what he called it, or how it worked? I do know his was talking about MySpace MyAds doing it, so anything is possible with Facebook. | |

I've noticed something similar myself when I've been on Facebook, but I've never heard of them actually pulling info from your computer (is that possible?). It is a bit strange though seeing ads like that! Do Facebook do re-targeting ads? |
