Default My first media buy stat

I have been on FB and POF advertising for quite sometimes, last week I decided to do something a little bit different, I tried media buy to see how it work, just reading can't do anything. Basically, I just implement all of the stuffs I have done on FB to other sites and this is the stat

this is unexpected, the CTR is way better than FB ads, with the same ads I only get around 0.08% CTR while I get at least 1.45% on this site, and the owner is pretty easy to approve my ad. Most site owners are pretty easy in approving the banners as long as they are decent(yeah, no headache for the approval process like FB). So far Saturday and Sunday are the highest(I guess people have plenty of time on those days), it's slower on Monday, Tuesday and start to pick up on Wednesday.

So far, I only get 3 conversion, but this is not too bad since I just put together a random banner and throw it in to test, it will work even better when I experiment new stuffs.

By the way, I don't use Buysellads or Blogads( and I have a very good reasons not to use them, lol). I have my own method to find sites and I use Quantcast plus Alexa to learn about the audience.

Media buy is not as hard as people think, I just use some experiences on FB and take them over here and it work good. Look like my first $100 in media buy really worth

Nice, man!

I'm doing small media buys now and I'm planning to do something much larger in the next week. I also feel that I can get much more from my PPC campaigns by expanding them to media buys (specially the ones on FB, since they don't last more than 2 or 3 weeks there).

Also, it's not necessary to use BuySellAds, BlogAds, AdBrite or any other similar service. You can use tools like Google AdPlanner and contact site owners directly. If you are running campaigns on Google content network you can also try to cut down on Google and contact some webmasters of sites that are giving you a good return on investment.

Awesome I am very interested in trying out Media Buys, honestly I am sick of PPC, it gets really annoying. CPV I haven't tried yet but I hear Media Buys are easier, not really sure how true that is. I do have a small budget though I am willing to spend $500 max on media buys, is this too small? Where can I learn media buys?

Facebook Ads. Because in reality, advertising on Facebook is really a media buying platform ( social ).

Interesting ideas for learning about the audience using quantcast I've just come across them a few months ago.

@yukinara

What platform do you use to track impressions and clicks or is it provided by the site owners?

yukinara, what are your reasons for not using Buysellads? I am just starting on Buysellads and the ctr is dismal. Care to share? Thanks.

because the price listed on those sites are higher. Right now there is a site I'm using, I found it on Buysellads. I decided to cut down the middle man and go directly to the site owner to negotiate a deal
Result: I can get the same ad space for nearly haft price(they list $50, I got it or $22)

another thing is that those sites make people LAZY,lol. Just think about it, everything are there for your convenience, you just need to browse around, look for a decent site with cheap inventory and then buy an ad space, throw in a campaign
Of course you can call it "researching", but the amount of work is not as big as doing it on your own, and the inventory over there is limited, when you step out side, it's unlimited. In fact, many big sites with super large inventory don't bother to list there since they have their own advertising department

but generally, if you do media buy and you fail, it is NOT because of the traffic quality. Over the time, I have found a very specific reason for that(after reading some books and working A LOT on Facebook and doing research on websites). Some people said that it's because now they use ugly banners to attract customers, or some really stand out banners. It is not the case too.
Of course I can't tell you, and I don't release any coaching or ebook either, but keep looking, eventually, you WILL know it

Thanks, appreciate that. I am sure I will find a way to make it work. Right now, just frustrated with the low ctr, even after trying so many banner types : static, text, animated.

I am guessing selection of the right site is key, in terms of placement of banners, quality of clicks, price and of course, the competition. Next step, use Google Ad planner and try to get direct ads placement.

Thanks, again

Very nice CTR Have you tried this with paying for impressions versus paying per click?

I have been using quantcast.com as well to find website owners but I'm not sure exactly how to contact them and ask them about doing a media buy. I use the Advertise button on the site but for some reason, everytime I try to use it there's always an error. I know how to it's just that I have already been rejected a couple of times. Will site owners allow you to pay on a CPA model? I'm asking bc in a course recently introduced by CPA mastermind Amish Shah, he mentions that you can only pay for conversions.

Sorry no,because it is pretty complex, I usually spend hours and hours to find sites and research about the audience, then save everything and come up with an advertising plan for them.if I write everything down it will be a 10 pages ebook and I'm too lazy for that

With that kind of CTR and that number of clicks only 3 conversions during the week...hm, I would call it fail actually...btw problem may indeed lie in so high banner CTR cause it really mislead person, it's abnormally high and if it not adwords, than it's cheating

Good stuff here.

BuySellAds is a nice platform to get started but negotiating longer term deals away from BSA will ALWAYS get you a discount.

If you find a site with some nice traffic cutting the middle man out isn't a bad idea.

Direct to site banner buys... one day people will realize that it's one of the "holy grails" of traffic. Funny thing is it's one of the oldest forms of buying traffic out there.

Look at the advantages:

- easy ad approvals
- very few restrictions on offers
- you deal with humans in negotiating (can negotiate CPA deals)
- very little competition compared to other traffic channels
- for flat rate buys, great potential for huge ROI
- very low barrier of entry, I've had buys for $100/mth

It's pretty much everything people ask for in a traffic source, and there are an infinite number of sites out there to hit. Some of the disadvantages that keep people away:

- Not self serve
- Research intensive (can be outsourced)
- Have to contact lots of sites to find good small buys (can be outsourced)

And the reason you fail typically isn't traffic quality, it's matching the wrong market to the wrong offer. If the traffic is real people, then you haven't done your job connecting the right offer to that group of people. This takes testing and rotating.

exactly Chad, it takes lots of time to study the market, audience and traffic source, but that's what make it truly interesting.

update: I check the traffic again and it seems like it is real, and my banners are good, but the offers just didn't convert very good. This traffic source is not bad, but the amount of traffic is small, so I can't test more than that, and I needed to find better offers to throw in
but overall, for most part, I already know how to make a good banner to get high CTR and that is the key in media buy. Well, it surely takes time, but it worth. Now I don't take any banner that has CTR lower than 1%
