Anyone going to Affiliate Summit West 2011?

I haven't yet been to an Affiliate Summit. I could probably learn something, and it'd be a good excuse to get out of the house. Then again, I'd like to hear the consesus on the WF as to the value of these things.

Is this just an event mainly for network owners and reps to mingle amongst each other, or is there really something here for affiliates themselves?

Would I be better off staying home and working on my campaigns, or should I check it out? The price of admission isn't a big concern, and I have plenty of airline miles to cover the plane ticket (I'd be coming from Chicago).

I've been to two, and it's awesome. However, the sessions are geared towards newbies. If you get quite bored with novice things, skip the sessions and just meet other marketers like yourself.

Invite some for dinner (ahead of time, so they make time for you) or vice versa. I've made some strong bonds through the private dinners.

I "covered" both times I went on my blog. I even made a podcast.

Sounds like a good reasonable goal to aim for. The question is: 'Do I need a flash in the pan experience'. No doubt it will be good. Sorry, but I am too far away in another Country.

I'll have to stay home and learn from my mentors by videos. i think this would probably be my best investment at this stage. I wish everyone a good time though.

I don't know if anybody really learns much at these affiliate conferences. I think they're more for networking, legitimizing companies/persons by putting a face on a name/screenname/email/voice, and to get drunk and gamble with your new connections.

Just my opinion though lol. I'm sure there's a lot to learn for many people though.

I've never been, but I'm not a big networker, I did a lot of that in my previous career and got kind of burnt out on that stuff.

I do think it can help though and if you're looking to make connections, you should go.

Yeah it's pretty much what Phil said. It's more or less a way to put a face to the name. It helps build more trust between your business partners because they can chat with you and get to know you. It more or less takes usernames, chat names, and email addresses and puts the 'human factor' into things.

You can drum up some business as well. I know the last show I went to I talked to a couple new advertisers and agencies and now we are running some of their stuff and they are very good offers.

You can't really go with any specific expectation. You more or less have to go with the flow, relax, enjoy yourself, and whatever happens happens.

i bought a ticket for the summit when they were cheap. i still might go, i just went to adtech last moneth in nyc, i dont know if its really worth going back to another convention

Are they the IM types that have landing pages with big red arrows selling traffic robots and magic get rich quick systems?

Of course it is. It will be a great chance to network with affiliates and meet them in person. Many super affiliates will be there.
