Default We are going to need a bigger truck

The old joke about the two brothers buying oranges for 25 cents each and selling them 5 for a dollar. End of the day they are sold out. One says, "You know what's wrong here?" Other says "Yeah we are going to need a bigger truck"

I can't figure out what's wrong here. I spent $70 on cpv at mediatraffic.com and made $5 on one sale. I used 3 different cpa networks. The click counts match up on both sides, but why only one conversion?

I sent the traffic directly to the offer page and the demographics through quantcast says that I used all the right websites.

I tried about six different offers and my one sale was for a scholarship signup. The scholarship traffic cost $10, so even with that, I'm losing 50%.

The further I go, the behinder I get. I did all the right things.

My plan is to change to email capture and do upsells so I get more bang per sale, but I see folks on here saying they are making money with the same thing as above, so I was curious how and what am I doing wrong?

Default Re: We are going to need a bigger truck

Fair enough, here are the details:

first offer was ProfitKingsMedia: Home Employment Agency (US, UK

I used the following with a pop-up.

msn.com 746 $11.19 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates walmart.com 466 $11.79 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates monster.com 94 $2.41 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates dice 75 $1.12 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates jobs.com 61 $1.52 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates beyond.com 14 $0.21 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates ihispano.com 3 $0.05 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates salary.com 2 $0.03 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates thingamajob.com 1 $0.01 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates payscale.com 1 $0.01 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates Total 1463 $28.34 0
That offer pays $55 so I know I didnt give it a fair shake, but 1400 impressions and no bites told me to move on.

My next move was to look around and see what was being offered. I saw a ton of the fatburningfurnace.com being spent on Facebook, so I figured, copy what people are spending money on. So looking at the demographic on quantcast, I see it is mostly African American women that are around age 30 and up, so I ran this to the clickbank offer

blackplanet.com 402 $8.89 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates bet.com 247 $3.90 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates urbanchat.com 239 $3.80 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates blackpeoplemeet.com 105 $1.72 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates oprah.com 42 $0.76 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates blacksingles.com 25 $0.86 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates essence.com 18 $0.31 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates steveharvey.com 10 $0.17 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates blackexpressions.com 9 $0.16 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates theurbandaily.com 7 $0.12 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates blackhairplanet.com 2 $0.03 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates Total 1106 $20.72 0
1100 impressions later I see nothing. I spent $20 on Facebook as well at around $1 per click and no sales. Granted I didn't spend enough yet to test this, since it pays $37. Am I just impatient here? There is not enough traffic on the sites I chose to generate anything meaningful, even if it does eventually convert. $1 per click on Facebook though is unreal.

That one is not the whole story on that market. I thought I would try some other markets for the same demographic and this is what I ran:

fatburningfurnace
752 $13.94 0 +Countries +Dates +Targets|Categories lonely - cheating spouses
163 $3.07 0 +Countries +Dates +Targets|Categories date.com - african american
125 $2.66 0 +Countries +Dates +Targets|Categories acai 6 - blend of 6 wl herbs
66 $1.04 0 +Countries +Dates +Targets|Categories Total 1106 $20.71 0
So mostly FBF, but others thrown in. Still $24 spent for a $37 offer. It is still running, so I'll see.

Next, I tried Scolarships4moms, which I see a lot of these days. I also saw a warrior forum post that said it was hot. Looking at quantcast, i see that it is mainly african american women 18-25 with children so the following were picked.

ed.gov 643 $12.86 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates urbanchat.com 138 $2.07 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates bet.com 106 $1.59 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates collegeboard.com 45 $0.94 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates fastweb.com 44 $2.24 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates enotes.com 23 $0.34 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates earnmydegree.com 17 $0.87 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates grants.gov 12 $1.41 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates hhs.gov 7 $0.11 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates elearners.com 5 $0.20 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates brandsurveypanel.com 5 $0.35 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates scholarships.com 4 $0.08 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates apollolibrary.com 4 $0.06 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates coregmedia.com 2 $0.10 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates doleta.gov 1 $0.02 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates babytobee.com 1 $0.02 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates courseadvisor.com 1 $0.03 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates Total 1058 $23.29 0
and I made $10 sale, woo hoo!

So total spend was this:
first 1463 $28.36 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates +Targets|Categories furnace 1106 $20.71 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates +Targets|Categories AA feamle teen 1067 $23.51 0 +Countries +Destinations +Dates +Targets|Categories Total 3636 $72.58 0

plus $20-30 on Facebook makes it $100 spent and I made $10. What did I do wrong?

Looking at my own analysis with a critical eye, looks like I didnt spend enough money to test these and I bailed too soon on each offer. Am I right?

Still, I aint buying a bigger truck yet. I spent $100 and made $10. Not statistically significant I know, but still 10% return?

Thanks, I'll try that. Will report back after another 100 bucks -- and a bigger truck.

I've had a worse return than that! Welcome to CPA haha.

The truth is that many campaigns don't work...you can't always push a campaign to make it work, many just don't be it the landing page, the offer, the traffic, the targeting, etc.

I've hd campaigns that looked great on the surface. The demographics were spot on, the lander was proven in other comparable campaigns, the offer supposedly converted for others, but it just wasn't working for me.

So the trick becomes when to bail, how much to test, etc. Everybody has their own formula and then of course theres the gut factor to add in

Going by demographics is good, but often you need a good landing page to presell them. Remember CPV is interuptive marketing, you need to grab there attention to sway them away from what they are looking at to view what you want them to look at
