Default Basic CPC Question

Let's say I choose a keyword, and when I google it no ads display. I'm assuming that means no one is bidding on that keyword.

Then I set up a campaign in adwords for that keyword, choose $.05CPC as max, and then get told that it's $4.25 to get on the first page.

Help - I'm really confused...

Don't search for your keyword in Google, but search for it in Google Adwords keyword tool, and show the CPC to know how much is it.

You can show the CPC bu clicking the "columns" button at top-right just above the generated new keywords. In its new window just check "Estimated Avg. CPC"

I hope this will help.

I do that, shows .05, then I search on google to see if there are any ads running, nope. Then I create campaign and low and behold my ad don't run, even with a QS of 7.

Just because a keyword doesnt trigger any ads doesnt mean Google doesnt know how much VALUE it holds.

Lets say theres 1 ad for INSURY LAWYER. That means 9 other slots on the front page are available. But Google wants $10 a click. One guy is paying that much to appear, so if you bid $1 you still wont appear, simply because Google wants more money per click ... NOT because there are slots available. Remember, Google has stockholders!

Any questions just let me know

This.

There must be a ton of keywords that no-one is bidding on, but this doesn't mean you can snatch a spot for 5 cents. If you were the only bidder on 'insurance quote' Google would still see the value in the keyword so you wouldn't get it for any less than several dollars on the click.

That's Google for you.

I don't sell anything in my signature...yet
