Wait. Leverage of free marketing first and learn the ropes. I don't want you spending all your money and being blocked by google.

That's a good point. PPC can be amazing and an amazing educational experience. It can be risky but if you mitigate the risks, then the rewards can be amazing...even for a newbie.

The reason I always say PPC isn't the best place for beginners is because most beginners don't approach it properly. They go in without testing, without tracking, and without a general grasp of how PPC works. BUT, if you can find a good PPC course, it can be a great start for newbies.

I still like to encourage newbies to try free traffic and get a good base income flowing from that, but if you have the determination and discipline to go with PPC, then go for it.

interesting thread...

ppc is good.if you have made up your mind then stick to them.but if you have more money you can test many campaigns and find profitable ones fast.

I think that yes, it must be planned and calculated, the right keywords chosen, right text in the ad to get only the right people to click through, the landing page should be well designed etc, but come on, it’s no more 1998 we’re in, you can’t be serious in your online business without PPC.

Is it a good idea to get into ppc? Can't I tread lightly and spend small amounts while testing campaigns, and then scale up the winners?

Does anyone know of a good thread / guide for beginner PPC?

thanks

Hey,

Its great to hear that you are eager to get stuck in and start making money with CPA.

Generally when using PPC traffic you will generally start off running campaigns at a loss as you test and tweak your campaigns. You wont see a profit straight away, if at all on some campaigns. When you get the right formula running for your PPC campaigns then you will make a very nice profit, but it requires money and knowledge to get to this point.

As you are just getting into CPA my personal recommendation would be to steer clear of PPC until you are more experienced. Free methods of traffic generation can be vey profitable and help you build up a good solid income so you can move over into paid traffic methods such as PPC when you have more experience and knowledge.

Good luck

I tried to set up a PPC campaign to promote an affiliate product. Long story short, Google has $200 of my money sitting in their pot b/c I didn't read all the "fine print".

Hopefully I will be able to use it eventually, but suffice to say I have decided the work of doing SEO to get free traffic is more worth it to me than losing money to Google.

I wouldn't spend money on PPC until you've learned a LOT about it. It's one of those areas that isn't forgiving to newbies because you could be forking out a lot of money if you don't know what you're doing.

PPC is a very powerful paid traffic source. As stated above, AdWords is no longer the ideal place to go for ppc ads, but there are a list of great ones. If you want specific advice on my top ppc traffic providers, I can give you a quick run-down per "category" if you pm me. Also, facebook ads work on a "cpc" basis, but are not considered "ppc" since they are not "search" traffic. They are social. Still an extremely powerful source, any social site. If you can target correctly, pof is great, and so is youtube if you're into videos. My recommendation is simple - if you want to get cheap traffic and have somewhat of a budget - set yourself on some PPV (pop ups, interim ads) and link up with a tool like CPVlab to closely monitor your spendings. If you can get a good and solid idea to work on PPV, you can easily transcend this idea into more specific targetting, and therefore a more specific adcopy, as you work up to PPC. Take knowledge from your ppv (demographics, working landing pages, working keywords) and then take them to ppc. Continue the breakdown necessary and then either move to other traffic sources of higher quality, or perfect and dominate your ppc search traffic.

Hope this helps.

If you start slowly and stick to low-cost long-tail keywords that closely match your content, PPC can be very lucrative, even for the beginner.

You just have to resist the urge to target broad terms that generate massive but untargeted traffic.

Remember, you are targeting CONVERSIONS, not traffic.

Oh, also - you need to produce a quality site if you expect to be approved for AdWords.

Well said.

PPC is very effective source of targeted traffic , but If you don't know what you are doing , PPC is a little bit risky , especially for newbies.
