Default Cost Per Action?

I never really understood the meaning of what this means...
I hear people saying you can get up to 50$ per "lead", whatever that means.
Could someone please describe the basics of CPA to me?
What I mean is:
Where to get involved in CPA?
How to get involved?
How does it earn me money?
What I need to do in order to make that money?

Thanks!
If I think of any other newbish questions on the matter, I'll let you know...

Most CPA companies are either lead generation companies or are bigger companies that do affiliate sales. When you hear $$ per lead, basically if you get somebody to fill out a form/survey you get paid $ for that lead. Email and zip submits usually pay around $1.50 per lead.

There are tons of CPA companies out there that you can apply for. Some are strict on approving members, others not so much. Some do require a phone call to verify you and to make sure you have a good business marketing strategy.

To make money you can either sell products and get paid for each sale, or do easier stuff like have somebody fill out a short questionnaire or email submit and get paid $1-2.

Hope this helps.

They pay you for getting people to take an action they deem desirable. Whether that be filling in a zip code, email, credit card or anything else. They have their reasons for wanting what they want and it's up to them to monetize people after you've gotten them to take the desired action.

I personally prefer offers that payout more that $10 per lead. Otherwise you need to pump huge amounts of traffic to make it worthwhile.

So when I sign up to a certain CPA network, I tell them (if they accept me of course) I want to focus on high paying offers? How does that work?
How do I get people to commit that certain action? I put links on my website? Do I need a website tp be specially oriented around that specific CPA offer, or can I have it like a little bonus on an existing website?
Thanks for the helpful answers!

Not necessary. There are many methods you can use to make money with CPA without website, such as facebook fan page, article writing, forum/blog comment etc. Taking action is the KEY to success in the affiliate marketing. Good luck

Concentrate on your earnings per click, EPS, and necessarily on the highest paying offers. If they are paying a lot remember that the person might have to submit a lot of information, possibly more than one page, so they will have to have a very high desire for the offer. If it is really compelling, and you will have to judge this from the landing page content and whether you think people of a certain demographic will have the desire to reveal all the required information and then hit click to submit. Obviously it does happen but it might need a lot of testing initially. Don't think you can just pick up $20 per lead easily. I always try for a minimum of 1% sign up rate and you should do quite well. You need to get their attention, keep them interested, build their desire to such a level, they fill in all the details and take action. The marketing boys call it AIDA and it has been around for years. CPA is just a new way of saying lead generation. All companies require sales leads in order to sell their products and corporations have paid for leads for years but now it has gone online and everybody from anywhere with an internet connection can help and these companies and in return make money. Hope this helps. Very regards Nickimfx

CPA,Cost per Acquisition/Action, is similar to CPL in that the advertiser pays when a visitor takes a particular action upon arrival at the advertiser’s site. Again, these ads can be banners or hyperlinks leading directly to the website. The advertiser decides on the payable action, which might include downloading a game or program, purchasing an ebook, joining a course, or something else. The payout is determined by what is involved in the payable action and how much effort is required for the advertiser to make a profit, with rates ranging from cents to tens of dollars....

What is CPA
CPA, or cost per action, is one of the hottest ways to make money on the internet today - and surprisingly many internet marketers have never even heard of it.

The action that you get paid for is for your site visitor to fill out a form with some personal details, usually an e-mail address or zip code, and submit it.

That's all! No pre-selling, no refunds, no long sales pitches or any of the hundreds of other traditional affiliate marketing woes to worry about. When done correctly, CPA is one of the simplest ways to monetize a website.

Advantages of CPA

There are many online business models that are highly profitable, but they have existed very much in the background due to the fuss that has surrounded Google AdSense, Google AdWords and traditional affiliate marketing.

CPA is certainly one of these “hidden treasures” … Until now, that is! The fact of the matter is: providing leads (potential customers) is much easier than selling products. It is far, far more profitable than other online advertising models. And generally speaking, CPA can be used with the vast majority of websites.

In truth, CPA is where the big dollars change hands, because the large companies will spend millions to get new customers, and there are a lot of big players in this game.

More and more online marketers are discovering the highly advantageous nature of the CPA system. Indeed, for the direct response advertiser in particular, CPA is now considered to be the optimum method of buying and selling online advertising.

Firstly, what makes promoting CPA offers so attractive is that the user generally doesn’t have to buy anything. Instead, they’re just required to enter their personal information, and once they complete the lead, YOU earn commission.

Secondly, the advertiser themselves ONLY pays for the ad when an action has occurred, whereas previously they may have been paying for newspaper ads or Google AdWords clicks – both upfront costs to the advertiser...

This means that advertising revenue is never wasted. In fact, every cent the advertiser spends achieves the desired result, whether that’s a form being filled in or a visitor signing up for a free newsletter.

I hope this helped

Regards
~Sam~

Yes, Samrath pretty much nailed it on the head. It is ALOT easier than trying to sell an ebook or a product. Done properly it can be very LUCRATIVE.

A lot of affiliate networks now are not just limiting themselves to offering cpa offers. they are branching out into other forms of advertising.

CPA is a good way to earn money. If you know any promotional methods of how to drive traffic to a site, you may use them to attract sign ups to other sites who will pay you.

Hi, I am new to this Forum and came across your posts. I know you are talking about the affiliate side but on the publisher side, can you recommend which affiliate network may be a good fit to work with newbies. I want to pay for lead gen, high volume, low barrier (3 fields) and its a free offer..Global reach. any suggestions appreciated!
