I suffer from bipolar depression... I am frequently in a period of crippling depression. However, I also experience swings where I feel, invincible; or, as though there is a special meaning to my life and I am somehow gifted. In between these extremes I can be a real smart ass. My extreme intelligence comes in handy there. Well anyways, One of the random things that flew out of my mouth lately was "My smoking is a suicide attempt... I'm secretly hoping I will die of lung cancer." Hopefully that didn't offend you- if you knew me, you'd understand. I made that statement, and quickly grabbed my notebook and pen and out flowed 20 Ad titles, 20 Ad Copies, and after returning with my notebook to my PC, 20 images. I decided to try promoting ECIGS again. My cynical comment about my smoking habit, completely inspired a myriad of ad ideas to promote ecigs that I was excited about. The first 5 days of January I had tested some "New Years Resolution" spins, but all had failed. The first 5-10 days of January were frustrating. But with all of these new ad copies that came to me on a whim and were transfered from notebook to Prosper... and then finally a bulk upload of ads. I was back in business. Monitoring on an average of 8hrs/optimization. Success. The morals of the story: Well, There is money to be made in the ecig arena. New Years Resolution is STILL relevant (some of my top performing ad copies right now are still resolution based), And- I expect the resolution effect to continue through February, and with March comes the brink of Spring and Weightloss fever! PS... The reason for the ODD title to this thread. The title to this thread, happens to also be the title of one of my winning ad copies!!!!!!!! |

Exactly! Once you have been doing it for a while, the ideas come. You can be watching a movie in the theater and bam something in the movie sparks an idea for a niche, a keyword, a landing page, a product, whatever. You start to get ideas all the time and then you get so many than you filter through the bad ones and just test out the good ones. This is where an iphone or other smart device helps so you can jot down notes right away before you forget or voice record a message for yourself!

| OP - Great post, It's amazing how you reflecting on personal experiences or communicating with peers can spark new concepts, advertising angles, ETC. I love the E-Cig approached you use, my only question is whatever source of traffic you were using, I'm surprised they allowed that ad-copy. did you have any issues getting that approved? |

Friend of mine manages a couple e-cig kiosk in some malls, their making extremely good money, hell rent alone for each kiosk is about 5k a month and Nov/Dec jumps to 10k a month in my mall for the holidays. There are days when they sell a couple thousand dollars worth of product. And whats impressive about that is we have laws where kiosk people can't really approach you and try to entice you in, they basically just sit there and wait for people to stop at it....pretty crazy. Seem to work to, though you may get addicted to them b/c of the nicotine but better than smoking in all that crap and chemicals in cigs. It's funny seeing him show people it for the 1st time, they are absolutely amazed. And good residual income as they have to keep buying the cartridges. |

E-Cigs are AWESOME! I have no idea about promoting the offers, but the products themselves are great. On August 15,2010 I got my Joye510 kit and haven't smoked a analog since. I was a pack a day smoker for 22 years and I stopped just like that. Haven't thought about smoking since. I vape all day long though. The key to vaping successfully (quitting smoking) is matching up the right device (mines a Joye510) and the right juice (I use China Menthol 24MG that costs $10 for 50ML and lasts a month). Once you have the right juice and the right device, throwing away the cigs and the lighters is really nothing at all. Vaping is actually more enjoyable than smoking cigs. |

Good spot. If you see something being promoted consistently in a high traffic and presumably high cost campaign, you can pretty much bet that somebody is making some money. You can do the same thing for PPC. Track (or have a piece of software) track consistent ads at the top of expensive keywords...they are paying an arm and a leg consistently to be in that position for a reason...right!

I agree. Smoking is really dangerous to your health. Every stick of a cigarette will deduct 3 minutes of your life.

If Kurt Vonnegut were still alive, he could sue you over your ad copy, lol... He said "smoking is a slower form of suicide." Anyway, I disagree somewhat. It's the hundreds of toxic chemicals that are added to most cigarettes that create the harmful effects, not the pure tobacco or nicotine itself. I smoke american spirits (2 or 3 a day) and enjoy the occasional smoke. Never tried the ecigs yet, but they sound interesting. Great job with your advertising. |
