Default PPV - Keywords versus URLs

Hi,

I've been usning PPV to promote some email submit offers and a couple of insurance quotes with a relative success.

I had no luck with using keyword as targets. I've only succeeded with URLs. (I have accounts with MediaTraffic, LeadImpact and TrafficVance)

Is anyone out there that had success with Keywords?

i find keywords will generally yield a much broader target than urls.. I personally like urls better as i find i can target better..

but with that being said, i have found some that work,,

Like ChrisBa said,

I have found using keywords is way to broad in PPV. Using exact URLs gets you a much more targeted audience. I to have never really had success with keywords in PPV.

I think that URL's are way easier to target.

You ask someone promoting a product in their signature if what they are promoting is a good product...

That being said, although I don't subscribe to it, it seems like good value.

I don't sell anything in my signature...yet

90% of my targets are URLs. The keywords I add are very specific (like a brand name or a domain without the TLD) but can also be a broader term if there isn't too much traffic. Always be careful using keywords.

In the last few weeks, I started using PPV again... and I'm not having success with either keywords or URLs...

so then you know it's not the traffic, and can chunk down closer to the problem.

They both perform equally well from my experience. Just need to test

The only way you should use keywords is if you are really really experienced. They bring way to broad of a spectrum of visitors. Just my 2 cents

I suppose you need to divulge more info - are you direct linking or using a LP? It could be your LP copy is not effective.

Did you run quantcast or compete data on the URL's you are bidding on? Do your demos match up?

Are your keywords too broad and bringing you non-relevant visitors?

Are you passing any of your keywords to your tracking software or CPA Network to analyze the data?

Hi,

Thanks for the comment!

Usually what I do is the basic:

1. Go to keyword external tool and choose the top 10 keyword with most local searches

2. Then I use a scrapper tool to get the top 100 URLs from google

3. I check the URL's to see if there's any irrelevant sites

4. Depending on the offer I do direct link or not (I do direct link when the offer landing page has a dimension that suits the pop-up)

Here's an example of landing page I did for Home Insurance
Free Home Insurance Quotes

Note: I had no success with it...

I've tried several offers (including email submits and trial offers) and had no or litte (very little...) success.

ppv isn't something you can usually get right on the first few attempts. A lot depends on your landing page - this has to be a killer - spend time creating and testing landing pages until you have one that gets results. The only way to win with ppv is to continue to test. And stick with the urls but relating to pages from within the sites, not the home pages.

I personally always focus on URL targeting. It does yield a better response rate compared to keyword targeting. Laser targeting - do URL's. And as Steve said above, make sure you use your sources to find out the specific keywords / url's to use. There are a few out there that you should be using including google's keyword generator tool, alexa.com, quantcast, similarsites. As you start monetizing your campaign, do your researches on the top performing keywords and then generate yourself another list of url's / keywords. You have to constantly be changing things up based on what your seeing with your audience. And of course you won't know this unless your using some kind of tracking like tracking202. Make sure you are tracking properly and that your constantly optimizing your campaigns as you start learning who your audience is.
