Default Question about Ad Bidding

Okay,
Most advertising companies say something like:
Min bid $0.50 Top Bid $5.00 - just for an example..

So does this mean that in order for you to actually get your add seen by people you will have to bid $5?

If my offer pays $18/lead, and it has a 2% Conv ratio.

1000 Clicks @ $5 per click = $5,000
2% of 1000 = 20
20 * $18 = $360
Total Profit = -4,640

If I do things right, I can build a list, but even so.. I'd be in so deep with only 20ppl on the list lol... even if it was 50cents per click, I'd still be in the red, but not by as much..

Hopefully, I'm looking at this wrong..but it seems like it wouldn't even be worth promoting anything less than a $50 payout per lead.

No, you will still get traffic for lower bids, just not as much as the top bid.
