Default How do I get a Clean URL for my affiliate links?

Hello,

Ive been busy signing up and getting approved for different affiliate programs, which I plan to promote on my website. I promote them on the 'Tools' page. Please check my sig to view the page.

The problem is all the affiliate links are long and ugly. How do I get a clean URL? For example: website.com/recommends/product

I would also like to track the links using Google Analytics.

Can some one please tell me how to do this? Ive been breaking my head over this for a while, since the compliance with the affiliate networks is making it a little complicated.

Regards,
Zoheb

Update 1

I had considered the html redirect. But here is what the compliance team at CJ had to say about it:
"Use of the the html redirect is acceptable as long as it passes the correct referring url to us (the page where the click took place)."

How do I pass the url of the Tools page over to them? Instead of the redirect page...

You'll have to make a simple .html page
ex - url1.html
place this into a new folder(you can store 100's of these files if you have unique names)
html redirect
The above URL shows what code you need to insert inside the html file (its really simple)
And yes, don't break your head, it hurts kinda

BudgetSEO,

Thanks for the reply...

Do you know how to pass the url of the Tools page over to them? Instead of the redirect page...

They don't want blank redirect (you should not hide the traffic source)
Don't use URL shortners inside the html code (insert your aff URL Directly)
All should be good as the affiliate site can trace the traffic to your domain

Blank Redirect - Its a type of redirect where the source of traffic is hidden.
Example - If i redirect Zoheb from my website to hostgator through a blank redirect, Hostgator won't be able to trace the source from which Zoheb landed on HG.
If its a simple redirect, HG will be able to trace Zoheb's landing from my website
(In case you use a URL shortner, HG won't be able to trace, as their traffic log will shot bit.ly as the source)

I hope it was helpful.
Sorry am a technical guy, but i tried to be precise

Edit
Just thought adding this small diagram will help

Clean redirect
Your Website's .html page having your aff link ----> Clickbank/CPA Page
(Here they can see the traffic came from your .html page or your domain)

Blank Redirect
Your .html Page ----> Double Meta Refresh (Blanks the source) ---> Final Clickbank Page
(They can't trace traffic source)

URL Shortner Redirect
Your .html page ---> bit.ly URL ---> Final CLickbank/CPA Page
(They can see the bit.ly as the referring URL, which you don't want to do, breaks TOS)

Hey thanks for the quick and detailed reply...it is very appreciated.

The compliance team was actually from Commission Junction, not Clickbank.

Ok so let me explain my doubt:

Where the click takes place --- www.website.com/tools
The page which redirects --- www.website.com/tools/redirect

If I follow this HTML redirect method, CJ will see the referring URL as (www.website.com/tools/redirect). Yes, they will see the source as my URL, but not the exact 'page' where the click took place.

Just double checking to see if this is not what they meant?
Or am I analyzing this too much?

Regards,
Zoheb

Zoheb, yes they want to see the source from where you are sending the traffic.
It'll show as http://www.website.com/tools/redirec...rect-code.html
Sorry about confusing with Aff networks, i don't play the game anymore
-S

Edit, all they want is a legit domain name and not some tinyurl or url shortner in their traffic source
Even if you use a deep page to redirect, it's absolutely fine as the company will see your home domain driving traffic.
However, if you use some tinyurl or bit.ly code, it could create trouble

Also i do not monitor threads, if you need any help, feel free to PM me.

I thought about this and I thought you could use a URL Translation service like Google URL shortener OR even better just had a brain wave you could register a new domain name then set up a CNAME record in DNS to redirect your page. Simples Nice and Clean
