I was wondering if any of you had any success "renting" the use of huge consumer opt-in e-mail lists (100k+ subscribers) and marketing CPA offers to these people?

I'd imagine a click-thru rate of roughly .2-.4% but even then, that's still 200-400 people seeing your offer.

Ya, there's a good ebook about this, not specifically using cpa offers, but there are places where you can "rent" lists that are completely legit and can bring you good results. Your best bet will be to start with at least $1000, though.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter at all how large the email list is, it matter how many clicks you can get and even more important, how targeted and non-diluted the traffic is.

A list of 500 can be more responsive than a list of 100,000!

I have never done the traditional renting of large unknown lists besides some solo ads which is sort of the same thing but wanted to emphasize that its not the size of the list that matters but the responsiveness!!

The money it costs to rent a list could be used to build your own too. This way you know what your getting

I think the "rent-a-list" thing used to work a LONG while ago, when people didn't know any better. It didn't take long for people to smarten up to email spam.

If you plan on spending $1,000 on one of these lists, then you need to make DAMN sure that your offer is good and your emails are compelling. Not just "Hey, WIN FREE IPAD!" LOL

As Chad has mentioned, it won't even come close to converting as well as if you've pulled the emails from your own site with double opt-in.

I will go against many on this thread.... starting with you good sir. 100K is not a huge list. The big mailers out there are sending out 100MM a day+.

But anyway, the issue isn't just finding the lists/data. The issue becomes delivery. And if you're working with an ESP, chances are they're charging you so much that it's going to cut into your profits unless you own the backend of the offer. So then comes having your own servers, IPs, and MTA... and you still need to inbox.

It's very lucrative, and consistent... but the barrier of entry is really high to do it properly, especially if you dont have a solid source of data. Scrubbed data that isn't filled with spam traps and such. It's not as easy as just loading up and blasting.

I mean, you could try that on a bunch of smtp accounts, lol you'll probably make some decent cash for a few days, at a fantastic roi. But you'll probably be booted fairly quick.

I agree, 100k isn't a whole lot - in fact it's the lowest of any company I've researched.

I was lucky to find a reputable company that does blasts to 5 times that amount at a very affordable price.

Will fire up a test campaign and return here with results (Disclaimer: if I end up NOT returning to this thread, it's probably because the campaign went so well and I'd rather the thread die..lol..im not kidding)

P.S. Chad, you mentioned companies doing 100MM+ a day, can you refer me to some of these companies?

I think creating your own is much more profitable than just using any rental list.

King.... those guys doing 100MM a day, the ones I've talked to anyway, they're private mailers and won't really mail for you unless you have a really high converting offer and make it really worth their while.

I found out only after placing my order though this company has numerous complaints alleging fraudulent service.

I've had a few referrals to other top notch opt-in companies since then so I'll be contacting them for more information this weekend and re-launching another campaign.

P.S. the good thing though is the payout on my lead conversion is double what I paid this crap company for traffic.

Traffic started I believe late Wednesday.

No conversions as-of yet and yeah I used a network suppression list.

I will tell you that you seem to be TAKING ACTION and that is the important part! I've been working on a campaign all day! DO not enjoy the dirty work, but it pays off in the end.
