Tip: How To Make Money With Gateways

In layman terms a gateway is a script you put on your landing page or Exclusive content page that blocks the page to any visitors. Your lander will load, but a box pops up in front of it. A visitor will only get access to your lander once they have completed one of the CPA offers listed in that pop over box.

Ok, enough with the basics now onto the fun part...

1st: Find a trendy search term that is hot.

Google Trends and Ebay trends are great places to start. (there are TONS of places to find this info)

2nd: Use your Search Term and create attractive content around it.

For example when I looked on Google Trends yesterday I saw “Kentucky Derby” (Horse Racing Event) was on the list for top search terms. So I would probably link to a site where you could watch the Kentucky Derby, or I could get real crazy with it and my landing page would be promoting a watch TV online affiliate offer.

3rd: Create your landing page

The secret to success with this method is to be a tease. So, using the Kentucky Derby example, I would create a landing page mocking the site that would actually show the streaming game. So take an image with similar content in a video player and post it on your landing page, a description about the game, some images. As soon as someone clicks your video player, your gateway pops up. Your conversions will be drastically improved this way because people have already committed an "action" by pressing play. They will be more apt to commit another one.

Here is a quick Example of a landing page (quickly thrown together for this example) I would suggest putting a little more effort into yours. Most features are there. As you can see, the concept is simple.

4th: Now, login to XRev Media and create your content gateway.

I recommend creating a custom background that pertains to the event you are promoting. Make the gateway as relevant to your sites design as possible. May seem a bit overwhelming, but this method can EASILY be outsourced and STILL be extremely profitable. I created this example up in 10 minutes. So a nice page could be created in 30 min or less.

Customize the Titles and Descriptions to your liking. Then test once, test twice, test 3 times, and then test again for good measure. After you finish that Test one more time. Be creative and tell your prospect WHY they need to fill out the offer.

You can use this technique with new or hit movies, brand new popular software or programs, trending Youtube videos, etc etc. The sky is the limit...I take that back, your creativity is the limit.. Ok now go do it.

This method is simply to guide you if you are just starting out. There are TONS of great ways to use these gateways. Take this method, apply it, perfect it and then duplicate it and get creative.

This is actually a really decent method. Using super targeted PPC or PPV to drive traffic to these pages can really help to boost profits. Great post!

Yep, part of my 2011 business plan is to roll out some locking campaigns. The toughest part is that (like many methods) you need massive traffic to make a lot of money. The other tough part is that a lot of (not all) campaigns that people do really well in are more trendy campaign like hot topic campaigns which many times is inconsistent traffic. Like the kentucky derby campaign would have a pop around the time of the derby and shortly after and then be lackluster for the rest of the year.

Of course there are ways to make more sustainable and long term, but a lot of people are doing the "pop" method.

Which is fine. I means making a few grand each on a few pops a month can be a decent income!

Yeah this is dope dude. I've never really known what was happening with this sort of thing online. Just makes sense as an internet marketer to use this as another tool. Great post, it really explains exactly how the process works. I'm totally in. I hope to use this strategy soon.

For someone who is new to CPA, taking the 30 minutes to setup the campaign to bank a couple hundred dollars is worth it.

For those that are more established in CPA these quick little methods won't do justice. I have a content locking method that is more long term but obviously it takes more time and money to get going.

Thanks for the tips, using paid traffic with this method to make even more money could work great in this case, leadbolt released a tutorial on how to make money with media buying few weeks ago, it worth a read there is some good tips, found it here : A $2000-$3000/day Media Buying Campaign - Mr Green

I absolutely agree. When I was new, I used to do short term trend campaigns all the time and it was worth it for me at the time. It wasn't content locking, but in anticipation of a major event such as an entertainment or sporting event, I would throw up some videos or something targeting that keyword and attach a CPA offer and make a little mini surge of money.

My first campaign doing this was for the Academy Awards and I created dozens of videos targeting the keywords like

Britney Spears Oscars dress...or 2007 oscars Britney spears

and did that for like 30 celebs. Made like $100 in a day and then of course it dried up, but it was worth it.

And yes, there are sustainable content lock campaigns...I was just noting that many people do trend type campaign for content locking...such as common niches like tv shows, movies, etc

Hey keith,

A couple of questions for you. I had read about content locking before and disregarded it as I thought is was more of a black hat method. Can you explain for us newbies how to keep this method above board.

1. What type of content do you guys allow to be content locked?
Do you allow software downloads, warez, streaming movies / tv, adult because presumably these have the more motivated web surfers who would be willing to complete offers because they want whats on the other side.

2. How do we know know which offers in your network are open for use with the content locker. I take it its selected promos only?

Thanks Keith, Im new to CPA but keen to get involved and I like the concept of content locking so any information you can give me would be great and I'd be keen to join your network also and start experimenting with sites.
