To add to speedylikesKJ's post. PPV is also known as CPV (cost per view). Basically you are charged every time your ad is shown/popped.

PPV ad networks are more lax on what kind of ads you are showing and also the landing page guidelines as opposed to AdWords and AdCenter.

Yea it is but dont try that its nothing more than crap traffic check out leadimpact , Direct CPV and trafficVance

Seriously, when I heard this term a few years come out, first thing I knew was they were going to charge more than normal for pops. Pops used to be on a CPM, so instead of telling you that you are paying $100 CPM, they say its .1 PPV

But in all seriousness I've never heard of them charging cpm, so it's interesting to me. Learn something new everyday

PPV advertising stands for Pay-Per-View. When people hear that they automatically think it’s the same thing as CPM (Cost Per Thousand Impression) advertising. It’s not! Pay Per View means you pay every time your landing page is viewed. Although that sounds like PPC it’s different because to view your landing page no one is clicking. Your landing page is appearing in a popup.

Why is this type of advertising good or bad? in comparison to other types of ways to bring in visitors for CPA?

It would seem on the surface to be a bit more risky.
Why would someone choose to utilize PPV, is there an advantage this offers?

Good:

- Fairly easy for beginners (can direct link, or use a simple landing page)
- The PPV networks aren't too strict on what they won't allow
- A unique way of targeting sites to engage the visitor

Bad

- No real way to do specific targeting (ie females ony)
- You can see what others are bidding so it's easy to get into bidding wars
- Limited scale

When I say 'limited scale' I mean limited compared to doing certain types of media buys, and some other traffic sources. However, I will say that maybe 1% of affiliates ever scale PPV traffic as far as it could go. You could easily spend 5 figures per day on traffic.
