Default pondering solo ads: couple of questions

Hi, I'm just starting to look a solo ads, and wondered if anyone could tell me how someone (i.e. the people from whom I buy solo ads "guaranteed" clicks) can guarantee a click?

Whether or not the click converts is another matter entirely, but there certainly seems to be much to advocate this method of promo.

Second, I'm assuming that advertisement part is in fact a keyword optimised, copywritten sales or product review page?

Thanks for any advice

I'm right there with you Ian, as far as starting to look into solo ads.

I don't think anyone 'guarantees' a click, so much as they are relying on the fruits of past experience to say they are 99% sure that you will get at least so many clicks. I don't think they could make a 100% guarantee, even if they are saying that. (If they could, that would mean the clicks aren't human and no one would want it, right?)

I think that most of the time the copy for the ad is actually left up to you, the solo ad buyer. Then you write up whatever you want, pass it on, and they send to the list. I do believe that's how it goes...

If any solo ad providers wanna step in and add or correct me though, please do...

I know I am just kinda shooting in the dark sometimes, but this just occurred to me, Ian...

As far as 'guarantees', perhaps one thing some solo ad providers do (or could do) is run your ad to their mailing list UNTIL you get your 100, 500, whatever clicks. So if a marketer had a 40,000 list, maybe they run it to 10,000 at a time, and then if the first 10,000 gets 100 clicks, they're done. If it only gets 50, they run it to a second 10,000.

I should probably get out of the way and just let someone who really knows what they are talking about respond :-). But this is on my brain today too so I'm sharing what I'm learning I guess!

That's it typically. They'll run the ad until you get the amount of clicks they promised you. If they mail once and hit it, they're done. If they need to mail again they will.

Some of those lists are goldmines, others stink.

I guess that there's no way of telling the good and bad ones apart?

Due diligence, experience, testimonials, cost, perhaps?

I wrote an article in..2003 i believe it was that basically answered this question. I wish I had it, but the basic idea was that those who sell solo ads at a CPM are two types: those who have highly targeted lists, and those lists that don't convert on CPA.

(I'm not using CPA, but maybe they are, and that implies...?)

and therefore your advice is... ?

I can possibly answer my own prompt, but would nonetheless appreciate a bit of fleshing-out on this, thanks.

I've done many solo ads and I often get the number of clicks guarantee but not always and sometimes you get very disappointed with the results you get, a guarantee of visitor sounds better to me even though it's usually paid visitors or people that have to watch your ad for X amount of time to earn X amount of credit....

And if you want to find the winners as coach mentioned, well you have no other way than to test....
