One of the CPA networks wants me to send them a tracking pixel. What is that?

A tracking pixel is nothing more than a snippet of code you supply the network with to place on the page the offer(s) converts on. You'll find most of this information by following the steps I outlined in this thread here: Aspiring CPA marketers, this will save you a lot of time |

Hi Kyle, Thanks for the info. Can you give me an example of what a tracking pixel would look like? Also, if I am doing PPC marketing what is the need of the tracking pixel if I don't use a landing page? |

There is free tracking software available such as Tracking202 (service) and Prosper202 (self hosted) that have both a tracking pixel and post back url... The whole point is conversion tracking so that you know which keywords and ads are converting and do that in an automated fashion. I hope this helps...

If I only do PPC to offer marketing what is the purpose of a tracking pixel? Which tracking pixel would I send the CPA network? I'm still confused as to what a tracking pixel really is and what I need to send them.

It doesn't make sense that the network would ask you for a pixel. Normally, its the other way around. Networks ask advertisers, and sometimes affiliates ask networks to place a pixel so they can track leads. A tracking pixel is placed on the page where the offer converts. When the offer is finished and accepted as valid (in the case of the offer being filtered), it sends information to the owner of the pixel letting them know a lead went through. |

I think this is part of the network just wanting to make sure you are a real person and not totally clueless ;-). I applied to one network that asked for a tracking pixel, but since I didn't know what that was at the time, I just omitted it. A rep from the network emailed me in response to my application and asked if I could provide it -- and in the process of asking basically TOLD me what it was and how to create it. In your adwords account, if you go to 'conversion tracking' and then 'create new action', you can create one; just make up some sample information to put in the fields on the 'create action' page, then copy and paste the code that it generates. |
