Default Are You Lazy?

I think most of us are inherently lazy. We seek the path of least resistance, try to find shortcuts, try to find ways to do things easier and try to avoid work if we can. We read and hear about the 4 hour work week and think that it's actually possible for everyone.

We're sold what we want to buy.

Simple as that. We want to think it's easy. We want to think it's simple and we don't want to do any work to get there if we can avoid it. We read things about getting ranked on page one of google JUST by installing a wordpress plugin and THINK it's legit. (It's not btw).

We see gimmick after gimmick and think they work. Some might short term, but in the long term there is no substitute for hours put in. We want case studies so we can copy them word for word and not have use our brain at all. We think case studies are the answer. If someone posts one, surely I can just copy it and I'll make the exact same amount of money.

What we're not shown is the prep work, the testing that goes into it and the thought process involved in running any campaign successfully. We ignore those factors because that's not what we want. We want results and we don't want to work for them.

Busy work is not work by the way. Anything that is not adding to your potential bottomline is busy work. We go through the motions, half ass things and expect great results. We don't plan anything, we don't think through a funnel and we don't think beyond the immediate sale.

We're lazy by nature and it's tough to break out of that. Instead of searching for the easy way or the way that just seems a bit to good to be true, go take the hard route for once. Don't half ass a campaign. Don't try to find shortcuts. Grind it out. Do all the work necessary before, during and after the campaign is running.

Just my 2 cents.

Well said PPC-Coach, I can't agree more with you. Most people want it on a silver plate

Many people will tell you I have been in IM for years and I want desperately to make money online.

When you ask them how bad they want to succeed, they will tell you! Hell yeah so badly, and I am willing to do anything.

Tell them to create 10 ad copies and split test them, then you will find that they don't want to make it so badly.

You hit the nail directly! The first step is to accept and realize you are lazy. It makes it easier to separate what you NEED to do with what you want to do (very little). Every system is simple, when you put people into the equation - it messes everything up!

It is just so frustrating offer people advice only to be told, "that's too much work".

Well duh?

Wtf did you expect? Push a button and have money magically go to your bank account? That does not exist, yet stubborn, lazy people will try for YEARS to find that solution. Show them a way that works, has for years and you'll get every excuse in the book for them to NOT do it.

People actually think you must do something brand new in order to make anything online. They really believe that anything older then 5 minutes doesn't work anymore. They truely believe all the b.s. they're fed daily.

Here's another tip, the basics work. They work as well today as they did the day they were invented 100 years ago. Marketing is marketing, the medium is the only difference between online and offline. All the tricks, tips and gimmicks you see online have already been done offline. The technology IS different and the technology DOES change, but the basics ALWAYS stay the same.

If you haven't made anything yet, look in the mirror, blame yourself and get to work. Pick SOMETHING and follow it through. Don't half ass it, don't say it's too much work, just do the f'ing thing all the way through to the end.

Sorry for the rant but I had a real doorknob piss me off this morning.

Ain't that the truth!!

You have no idea how many times someone has asked me "I want to advertise on Adwords, but I don't want to build a website" (im sure you've had this too), then they get all mad when you tell them to either find a different traffic source or build a full site to be in the TOS of adwords

Some people do want (and expect) everything to be handed over, I guess what most people fail to realize that this is a business, there is no rules to what will work and will not work, there is just trial and error like any other business - if you try to cheap out or take the easy way with any business - you will fail..

Ok that's enough for my rant for now

Maybe it's just me, but I've noticed that the 'lazy' sets in only when I'm confused.

For example, it took me 7 months to get my first site up because every time I tried working on it, there was a php script that would. not. function. correctly. It just didn't make any sense. I'd bang at it for two or three days and get nothing out of it, leave it for a bit because it was so confusing, and then bang at it again for another three or four days. Finally, I had the idea to call my hosting company and have them explain it.

They looked at it and were like 'oh, it's broken, it doesn't work.' Gerr... I could have just written an HTML site and had it do exactly what I thought it was going to do.

I'm not *lazy* so much as stuck-when-I-don't-understand-the-process.

Does anybody else have that problem?

I did a course at work recently which focussed on how the brain works, and a key point was that our brains try to conserve energy as a survival tactic, so will try to make us take the easy path. This is why so many people struggle to do things that they know they should do ie exercise

Yep, gotta love it when you tell someone to build a list and they flat out refuse. "too much work, I just want to direct link". Ok fine, go direct link, why'd you ask me!!!

LOL

As for a site taking that long, that's when you need to get help. Getting help doesn't make you lazy it makes you smart. I would have bought, (and did), buy a book on programming and read it. I did this with Perl, (yes Perl), way back in the day. Learned it from a book. Then I went onto to teach myself PHP and a bit of javascript. I stopped there because I'm happy with being able to code whatever I want now.

I also agree with infomaniacs, there is something in our wiring that puts our brain against us. We know what we should do yet that grey lump of matter between our ears somehow stops us. We're creatures of habit. We get into a comfort zone and do not want to leave it.

I think that is why forums like this are so popular. It's a hangout for people who are looking for that magic pill. You can tell the guys who have been around a while or actually made something as they're the ones who put in a ton of work to get there. They went against the grain and did the basics. They still do the basics and that's why they succeed. People don't need to over complicate things. Breakdown whatever you do into a plan, then execute it to its finish. Don't allow yourself to move off that plan or execution or get distracted by something that looks "better" or "easier" or "faster".

If we would all use the potential we all have in us, we'd all be billionaires by now.

Very true. Most people try and find the easy way to success without knowing that hard work does actually pay off.

To be honest - I like the fact that some people are so lazy that they won't do any work. It means that there is less competition out there.

But admittedly sometimes I will do the least important things and try to fill up my days doing that because I feel that I don't want to do the hard work.

I've found that changing your mindset dramatically changes your behaviour and that's what I'm trying to do, and I recommend others to do the same.

Thoughts create feelings, which create actions (or inactions).

Getting over lazy and procrastination were big things for me and something I still struggle with but with some amount of success comes the motivation. I will say I see people all the damn time who just aren't willing to work at all and want everything handed over to them. Too many people feel like success is an entitlement and not something that is earned by wood-shedding.

I have bought many WSO's in the past ,but Damn...this thread and posts, particulary PPC-Coach and ChrisBa posts are much much more professionaly, accuracy and correctly than all wso's in wso thread ! I think only one thing is not letting succes to come. It's not taking action and to be lazy. And thats it...
Thanks Dear Warriors for sharing your experience!
