Hi. I don't know if this is the correct forum to post this in, so pardon me if it isn't. I want to promote a product I found which has an affiliate program on AsSeenOnPc.com. The problem is that the actual site of the product lists the product at $19.95 and the commission they're paying is $25. I don't know how that is possible and should I go for it or not? Has anyone else worked with As Seen On PC network and are they credible? |

Try contacting them to find out how the commission is higher than the product. Are you sure there isn't another product they have to buy for it to be a complete purchase. If so, then that would explain your larger commission.

Have you looked at the merchant site from when you click on your affiliate link? it might be more money to the customer if they buy through an affiliate link.. Also - you can't add html to your signatures here so it just shows up as plain text |

Hello, We are able to offer a payout higher then the retail price point because the average order is typically 35-40 dollars on a $19.99 product. The average consumer purchases 1-2 upsells per order and purchases multiple units per order. If you have any questions or want to speak with someone directly please give me a call 203.256.9897. Happy Holidays. |

Also for general knowledge (not this specific instance) sometimes you'll see the same situation for items that the merchant may get recurring orders from. They might be willing to pay you $20 for a $15 product, but intend on the customer to purchase that $15 product 10 times over the next year.

They can rely on the upsells and "shipping and handling and processing" fee's to get the total order amount much higher than the original advertised price. After upsells and added on fee's the average order amount could be $55.00 or much higher, meaning they have no problem paying you a $25 commission to sell the product. Also, they have a new customer that they can market to again and again which increases the original order value. An affiliate product I promote pays $11-14 on a $19.95 sale, by the time the customers get through two upsells and add on the s&h&p fee's I've been told the average order is almost $100. Which makes the $11 they are paying me an absolute bargain for them. @officer_lion makes a good point too, and a good example is the web hosting niche. Some very popular web hosting companies, pay around $100 when you signup a new webhosting client for them. The customer only has to pay a fraction of that up front, sometimes as low as $15.00. But the hosting company still pays you $100 because the customer is probably going to pay $7.95 - $9.95 per month for whatever the average retention rate is for web hosting, I would guess at least 3 years. So they are paying you up front to get them a customer that can produce many times more than the $100 commission since they are going to earn every month over the life of that customer. Another good example is home alarm companies, if you refer a sale of a home alarm as an authorized dealer and installer you can earn $1,000, even though up front the customer only has to $99 to get the system installed and working. However, the customer is locked into a 3 year contract, usually at $30-40 per month, and the customer usually stays for 6 or 7 years. So it makes sense for them to give you $1,000 even though they have only collected $99. Hope this long and boring post helped :-) BTW- I am an affiliate for asseenonpc.com, they seem to have good offers and a good website that has excellent tracking. However, I've not been able to login to my account for at least a month and their email support has not resolved the problem. |
