If you are just getting into media buying then I would suggest you stay away from the big networks.

Go straight for direct ad buys on related sites.

Use Quantcast or Google Ad Planner to find sites that fit your offers demographic and contact them about buying media on the site.

You can start advertising on POF with $50 if I'm not mistaken. But $50 wont be enough to make money on there because you have to have a solid understanding of what works and what doesn't with the POF crowd. Besides, every Tom and their moms are there promoting dating offers so the competition is fierce and ad copies, landing pages getting ripped off is a common problem.

Facebook will give you $50 daily spending limit if you are a new advertiser. You couldn't spend more even if you wanted to

AdsDAQ is a great resource, and one of the main reasons why is that you can get a lot of traffic for very little investment upfront. You can pick demographics to target from within AdsDAQ, so that cuts down on your outside research, and it’s another good option for people starting out with a smaller budget (although I highly recommend it even if you have a larger amount to spend).
