What has been your biggest mistake or regret that you have had with internet marketing? I would have to confess that a couple of mine are as follows. As a total newbie thinking that just having a website online meant I was in business. ![]() Way too scattered all over the place when I first started and believing in false marketing Prophets and promises of Wealth with only 20 mins a day of work! ![]() Not being prepared for the huge positive response I received for a major project. ![]() Going with Ejunkie for my first WSO when it did not have a way to integrate an autoresponder..but they let you send out a broadcast email for a fee doh! I am sure there are more but I learned from them all...do you have any to share? |

I don't really regret anything as it has got me to where I am and I think mistakes are healthy so long as you learn and grow from them Having said that I wish I would have just got started and took action sooner, I spent far too long initially just reading, reading, reading. Jumping form one product to the next instead of picking a system and just working at it. My view was that I wasn't ready and was simply educating myself about marketing, now I don't advise jumping in completely blind, research always helps, but I learnt more from my first few campaigns than months of research. So not taking action sooner would be mine |

We gain experience by making mistakes and we become perfect only by correcting those previous mistakes. I too would have been happier if I would have been little more focused at time when I started. I was jumping from one method to another and never took full action in any method. But past is past, we shouldn't regret those mistakes now and we should carry on our path and we should always keep in mind that we shouldn't repeat those mistakes ever in our life. |

Can totally relate. I was also reading stuff by guys with huge companies but I still could not wait to my feet wet. You go back to the drawing board but you get just a little bit wiser. Quote:
Yes you are absolutely right. I felt regret if someone else was affected by my actions directly or indirectly but if we are still alive that is opportunity to correct it if we can and move on. Quote:

But I make it a point that I apologize to them at the same place or atleast I will make a phone call to them that night itself. Yes this is also learning curve for us. Life so beautiful that we learn something or the other every passing day by our mistakes, advice from others or by searching.

This was my biggest mistake: Being lazy and not scaling some successful, profitable campaigns up to higher levels until they were too late.

Oh so true....some domain investing, also I am sure laziness has stopped alot of us from going to the next tax bracket. And the first time I just dove into Yahoo answers only linking to my own site non stop...haha glad I didn't need that yahoo account anymore..ouch. |

Back in 2010, when facebook monetization was starting, I use to buy installs on apps. Pretty cheap but I held back due to suspicion. Those 1k installs soon converted in 100k installs earning me as much as $100k. I wish I would have bought 10k installs initially, I would have been sitting on atleast $1000k |

I took a payout from ABOUT.COM for helping make sprinks. They then sold to Google. I took a little less than $1M, could have gotten upwards of $30-40M.

Ouch yeah you'd of been set for life, My biggest mistake i regret is jumping in to quickly before learning what i know today, I lost some valuable advertisers due to it that i wish i still had today. Even thou we have went direct with a lot of offers these companies still had offers you couldn't get any where else unless you wanted to get half what they are worth.

I'll tell you one of my future regrets which hasn't fully happened yet but tends to always be going on in the background to some degree. And thats just being on this forum reading. As much as I love some of the intelligence on these forums if you collectively add all the time you spend reading here, and imagine "hmm I wonder what functional things I could have actually done with my time", thats my regret. Not using my time wisely. Time is money and if you have any routine where you waste time, you're wasting money. It has also become the reason I limit myself on here and if I'm on here for longer than an hour on any given day I just sign out and don't come back. |

Spent way to much money on high priced, hype products that promised a ton and never delivered and I should have started posting on here sooner and join the War Room sooner. However, I don't regret these things. I learned my lesson and now can help other newbies avoid such mistakes. |

Taking a year to take action. I'm dedicated now, learning loads and finding my feet. If I'd done that a year ago instead of investing all my money into brick and mortar businesses , no telling where I'd have been today. Probably a lot better off .

Now that is the type of regret I want to have alot of. Like those twins who sued and won Facebook....have to look forward I guess. ![]() Quote:
That is probably the most powerful statment for Business Owners....if we do not manage the money and the people we delegate we are going in circles or diving South. Also I used to think that email marketing was just too obvious a way of squeezing people for money but as marketers we can not think like that...we have to offer value and if someone else invents a better widget than us nothing wrong with sharing it with our readers. For a commission. ![]()

Going in too many directions at once, which only lead to going nowhere actually. That was not exactly useless, since I've learned many things during that time, but great waste of time though.

Not starting it sooner when I had all the opportunity to get started. Also moving from each and every shinny object that was put on the market instead of remaining focused on one thing. Good experience though. |

Well, unlike some of you people, I can't say I regret starting too late. I'm just 19. What I do regret however, is my lack of motivation, and the fact that I can't keep too many balls in the air at a time. So I can't do campaigns as it takes too much stress for me. Do wish I've found SFI way before I ever sat down and joined various click sites just to make 10 cent which was never paid out. Only been in the IM niche for about 4 months, so I haven't done any big mistakes ...yet. |

One lesson I learned is to find balance. We can"t ignore our health over profits. But It is really hard to find balance...hard to get a cut up fit body, fat bank account, good diet, great relationships, and have fun all at the same time..but I try anyway! |

You should have no regrets in this business, most people will regret something because they lost money. Losing money in affiliate marketing is how you learn and get experience so you don't make the same mistakes. Profits will come, keep working.

1. Spend too much time reading tutorials at the beginning; 2. Too rush to build the first website without doing enough research; 3. Become lazy and complacent too early. 4. Spend too much time with PC and little time with GF. |

If any, spending a fortune on way too many shining objects that have me running in too many directions. Facebook, niche marketing, Youtube, mobile...did I mention domaining? The lack of focus is I think a major factor in not being successful, and yes I wish that 15 years ago I would have seen the light about where the internet was going, but I didn't. At least I learned to wait until the comment thread hits page 3 for most WSO's before buying ![]() Johanna
