Default What Is Your Definition Of A Case Study?

I think my definition is way different then others so I'm wondering what's your opinion on this?

What's your definition of the term?

What makes one good versus bad?

I'm just curious because I seem to be out of touch with the accepted definition of a case study and I want to see what the general consensus is.

For me, it's a trial and error method where everything is well-documented.

I tend to agree, the only reason I ask is some "case studies" are not really case studies they're just, "I did this and here's a couple things you can try too".

That's not a case study to me. It's still valuable, just not a case study.

Well we probably could never have a real case study on the WF anyway because in order for that to happen we as the readers/viewers would have to have all the info/facts.

For example, if you want to do some sort of SEO case study we would not only need to know the website you're trying to rank for but the keyword phrases, level of competition, exactly what you're doing as far as on-page and off-page SEO, etc.

Can't blame anyone for not wanting to divulge this info because if it turns out to be profitable the person wouldn't want to create more competition for themselves but in order for a case study to really be a "case study" we need all the info and not just parts of it...

And at the same time we have to trust that the person doing the case study is being 100% honest and up front as well .

Yeah I hear that. I just found that even some paid forums are calling things case studies that I would call nothing more then a "post". That's why I'm curious as to what the general consensus is.
