Default CPA & PPC - Basic questions but can't find answer

Hey guys,

I've got some basic questions I would like asked in relation to CPA and PPC.

(1) - For Google is it mandatory to have a landing page which is YOURS? Is driving your ad to an affiliate CPA link or enough? Or to your domain which then redirects to your affiliate link? ........ I would prefer not to go into a lot of effort to create tons of content on a site, and then find out the market just isn't right, seems like a lot of hassle to go to.... Would prefer to test to affiliate ID's etc.

(2) - Following on from the above, how are a lot of you making money on PPC when using landing pages if you are using offers which pay out $2.00 per lead? Lets say you are paying $0.20 per click, lets then say 10 people who visit your landing page go to the CPA offer and from there only 1 in 10 complete, you are already down.

Sorry for the newb PPC questions, but my background is direct marketing and seo.

I've never looked at any offer thatcpays that low I'm currently promoting a lead which pays $75 and paying .35 per click for being number 3.

I've only just started doing this I've been having 90 clicks a day and so far so good, I'm well up put it that way!

Thanks, your input is appreciated.

Do you need a landing page, or you sending directly to merchants landing page with your tracking ID?

Thanks

Hi Adam,

1. No, you do not need to have your own web site or landing page. You can directly link to an affiliate offer using yoru affiliate link on Google. The only caveat with that is that you might run into the duplicate URL rule (somebody is already using teh same display URL and has a higher quality score than you) or Google might not like the landing page that your affiliate link is linking to and you end up with a low quality score.

2. It can be difficult to make a $2.00 offer profitable on Google search, but if you can use the Google content network and get much cheaper traffic, it can be possible.

Hope this helps.

Google does not like any affiliates that don't provide real value. So you're risking account banning if you just direct link or link to a site that they don't consider to be adding value. You're far better off using second tier ppc platforms and direct linking with them as they do not have the same crazy rules as Google Adwords.

You can't pay $0.20 per click and expect to profit on a $2 payout offer. You need $0.01 to $0.04 clicks, $0.05 if you're lucky. That means Google Adwords is out of the question as they don't do cheap clicks anymore, (unless you've got a real good campaign going).

Look to second tier ppc platforms for the cheap clicks. There are plenty out there.

Hi Ryan,

Anytime you have a conversion rate as low as 1% on your landing pages, that indicates a problems with either:

1. Bidding on the wrong targets
2. Poor landing pages

In this case I like your landing pages although I would make the call to action a little more clear.

Which leads me to believe that i may be the targets that you are bidding on. It seems to me that you are targeting the Christian and Black dating niche, yet you are bidding on broad targets such as okcupid.com or seniorpeoplemeet.com?

If you are going to target these high volume sites, I suggest targeting the "registration" page of the site rather than the general domain itself.

Also don't get stuck into believing that you need to target just dating sites to get conversions. Try to go to places where your demographic profile for are hanging out. Maybe young single Christians hang out in Christian forums? Try targeting those place. Find out where else believe who visit Christian dating sites also go using a tool like Alexa.com.

I think that if you ca get the CTR on your landing pages between 5-10%, you will have a chance at making a profit.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Gauher
