I'm planning on driving 5,000 - 15,000 traffic per month using paid traffic. What VPS hosting should I get? Is 512MB RAM enough for this amount of traffic? Is 500GB Bandwith enough for this amount of traffic? Does disk space has something to do with traffic? Any suggestions on good hosting companies? Thanks |

It depends on what kind of site will you be running i.e. plain HTML or PHP/MySQL (Wordpress)? Bandwidth should be okay unless you have a site that revolves around high quality images. Disk space has nothing to do with traffic. Just the amount of data you have and will have on the site. |

You are correct the 15,000 visitors per month will not be an issue. Are you looking to have cPanel or not? If you want cPanel then you will need to go with HostGator's Level 3. Also check out InMotion Hosting and WiredTree for VPS hosting.

First, I would suggest you start with a lower spec VPS. 512 should be fine. If you notice your ram is peaking, then upgrade. A VPS can be upgraded very easily. There are plenty of providers offering managed VPS with those specs at a decent price. Disk space doesn't have anything to do with the traffic, but the disk configuration does. If the provider is running say RAID 1, your disk I/O is going to be your bottle neck. I'd find a provider using RAID 10. |

Right up my alley! As others said, the half a gig VPS should be fine. Though what others havnt touched on, is how consistent will your traffic be. Depending on the site you use to generate traffic, you may get bursts of 2000+ visitors in 30 seconds. Thats not a problem spread over a month, but in half a minute is a different story! |

I'm a big fan of Rack Space and Liquid Web. Also heard excellent things about Beyond Hosting for VPS.

As others said, if you will be using cPanel, as most people are, you will want at least a minimum of 512mb of ram. Otherwise there are free panels like kloxo that are free and light weight though require some manual setup which may be daunting for new users.

I like Liquidweb's Smart Server VPS setup. You can resize your server within a few minutes with just a few clicks. They have also added a new line of solid state servers to the Smart Server VPS lineup which greatly reduces the I/O bottleneck since you're basically accessing memory rather than a hard drive.

Nothing against Hostgator as I use them for my shared packages... but shop around and compare others to their VPS's... they're pretty overpriced at HG.

| You should probably read the forum rules. If you want to advertise, you need to pay for an advertising thread.
