Content locking is when you restrict access to content (be it images, videos or songs etc) which can only be viewed when the user completes an action (such as submitting their email address).

I have a article here that explains content locking in more detail:

    What Is Content Locking?

Typically not much, content locking is usually associated with free traffic.

When doing content locking you have to lock something that people want ALOT.

      Some examples:

beta release invites of video games
      ebooks
      templates & wordpress plugins
instructional videos (ex. golf is ususally a very profitable niche)
      apps
celeb gossip ( ex "kim k got a boob implanted on her forehead, not really but you get where I'm going with this, lol)
live sports streams (ex. soccer, ufc, boxing, wrestling)

      Some ways to promote:

      Youtube (free)
      Twitter (free)
      Facebook (paid or free)
      Forum posting (free)
      Blog Commenting (free)
      Search engine traffic
      Yahoo Answers
      Answers.com

      Misc.

Google alerts - Will help you keep up with whats goin on in regards to the relevant keywords you set up.

Content Locking is often frowned upon CPA networks, but not all. AdworkMedia seems to work perfect for content locking.

IMjunkie described it it a nutshell. Sign in with multiple CPA Networks (Adscend,AWM,IMPremium...) and test each offer. Once you see who converts the best just stuck with them.

You just offer something that people are interested in, then the user will need to complete an offer or offers to get access to it

How much you will spend is totally up to you. Many people use free traffic for content locking.

If you want to try it, make sure you will pick a niche which people would have a strong urge for - I tried it on one of my Adsense sites for a few days which did not get even one conversion, so I've put my Adsense ads back on again.

There is no such thing as a dumb question - we all start at the same place!

My only potential issues are the following:

    1) Offers only tend to be content locked because they are of such a poor quality that they cannot be closed without the lock,

    2) The payouts tend to be fairly small around $5 at best. It takes the same effort to get traffic to a content locked offer as it does to a non locked offer and these pay more.

What I tend to do is focus on the higher paying offers around $30 or so per lead and because people what what I am offering, I dont need to content lock it!

Hope this makes sense, any questions just let me know...
