Default Direct Linking in Content Network For Dummies

I'm so lost with adwords, I can't even get ads to show on search or content. Even after weeks, my ads are not showing. I've tried changing and teaking everything I could think of or read about, and still nothing. My bids are high enough for my keywords, my daily budget is plenty high. My QS scores are anywhere from 7-10. I don't get it. They never tell me exactly why they aren't showing, just give some BS vague reason that doesn't even make sense, they don't narrow anything down for me. I think I could be successful with adwords if I could ever get it to work. What am I doing wrong here, why is this so difficult?

Read the title again, and if you can make that guide, I'll gladly pay you for it.

Coz you're looking for a shortcut and there are no shortcuts. Not anymore... You can still direct link on GCN, but very best luck to you with that if you're just starting out.

Better invest that money into a nice landing page.

Ethan, Content has been working for me more than the search now for the last 6 months. You did not detail out what's not working, so I'm going to take a shot at what should work:
1) Make sure your kw are themed together correctly, yes correctly. You can pm me if you want to know more here.
2) Start with keywords in content and not placement.
3) Start with text ads on content and not image
4) Once kw and text start converting or getting impressions - move to placement & image using placement report.

Ok technical question here.

Are you allowed to use your own domain name, and then use that domain name to forward to the merchants site. And use that on google adwords?

Or do you have to simply make a squeeze page?

I am currently working on a product that teaches my Content Network strategies, but for starters you need to check the following:

  1. How many keywords are you using? You don't need more than 10-20 keywords per adgroup. Your keywords should only be broad keywords that have some sort of relationship. Basically, a list of keywords that would most likely be found on a page together or keywords that describe a certain demographic.
  2. Are you separating your content campaigns and your search campaigns. By default, when you setup a new campaign they are both turned on. You should turn off search for content campaigns and vice versa. Sounds like you have them both on together because you are talking about QS.
  3. What ad styles are you using on the Content Network? Text ads are usually the fastest to get showing. You can also get images showing within a day or two, but you need to separate them into their own adgroup.
These are just the basics of what you should be looking at and just scratching the surface.

Another note is that you should start with a low budget on the content network until you get a campaign that is working for you. You can easily have a runaway campaign that will exhaust you budget rather fast, especially on the Content Network.

You have a lot to learn in order to be successful, but I think you will be ok with the right guidance.

Good luck and keep an eye out for my product. You will be able to find it in the WSO section soon.

very bad. Any kind of redirect and domain forwarding is bad. Its bad for search and i bet its certainly also bad for content.
