Maybe go for the longtail - 3 or more word phrases, which can be cheaper but don't get as much traffic.

As a general rule of thumb though, you need to bid high initially to 'get in the game'. Make sure your site is relevant to your keywords, which will help your quality score, and if you have great adcopy, this will increase your clickthrough rate.

If you can maintain great relevancy and CTR, then over time you can lower your bids to break even and eventually make a profit.

Are you entering a highly competitive market (ie. diet, dating, health)? These are always going to be expensive to start with, so you have to allocate a substantial budget for the purpose of testing.

the key of bidding is conversion rate
example : if your earn/1 product is $10/pcs.
    and conversion rate is 1%
    - 100 click 1 sale = $10 (10/100 bid = 0.1$)
if you inc bid you'll lose, but if you dec bid you'll earn
the conversion rate may be more than 1%
if conv. rate = 10 % mean 100 click => 10 sale = $100 you can change your bid to winning this products..
    good luck
