Landing page - above or below the fold?

I'm creating my landing pages and was wondering if going below the fold is an absolute no-no with landing/squeeze pages. My angle is I really want to presell the offer before the call to action, but I don't think above the fold will be sufficient enough...or is it?

Always have some engaging and capture your audience to keep them on the site long enough to want to scroll down. Maybe put a little video to explain your product a little then tell the user to read more below.

Split testing is key but you're definitely going to want some kind of engaging content as soon as the users eyes are exposed to your page. The video above was a good suggestion but there are other options as well. Even just some well written copy can be enough to keep the reader interested.

Split testing is a good idea, for sure. I think it really comes down to your niche, content, and purpose of the landing page. If your goal is, as I'm assuming, to collect leads, I think it is in your best interest to offer them a compelling reason to give you their info ABOVE the fold.
