Affiliate program Vs. Promoting your own product

Hello

This is my first post on the forum and not much of an advanced query but wanted to hear opinion from everyone around. Considering the payouts for affiliate programs that are working well with facebook ads (dating, games etc.) and considering the concerns that come along with it, do you think it is a better choice to go on and try promoting my own product where each conversion would generate roughly $45.

I understand it all depends on the niche, product and targeted audience but just wanted to get a general opinion of people tweaking around with facebook ads for some time now.

Depends on how well your page/offer converts. I've had success promoting affiliate offers and clients' products with FB ads and with PPC traffic, so yeah, if you get your targeting down and the offer converts well (look for a high epc), its definatly worth promoting it yourself. (and use retargeting as well...it works)

It would always be better to promote your own deal, but how often does that happen? Not easy to produce a product enough people would want to make a nice income from, so with that and then setting up your affiliate network, it isn't easy, believe me, been there, done that, a real headache for sure.

I like to research businesses which offer real value, savings of thousands sure got my interest, and with a super high conversion rate, great commissions, a residual aspect, who needs to start your own deal when you find the perfect affiliate offer in a niche market of billions worldwide. Sure made sense to me.

    Success to all,

      Success to all,
I agree but if you are promoting your own product then you really don't have to worry about all the competition i.e other affiliates promoting the same product or service as you.

Agreed, but how many people can produce exclusive products, it is near impossible to bring a new unique and high demand product which isn't similar to everything else out there, so it would be a rare day for one to product a truly unique product which no one else has. In all my years I have only seen this a couple times where a product was able to be exlcusive with a patent as example. I have seen so many me too variations that once you disect them, are they really unique and exclusive, NO, not even close.

        Success to all,

Have to agree with you on this but maybe they need to dig deeper into other niches where the potential is huge and then maybe come up with a unique product?

There are some niches that are still not monetized properly.

Agreed, but now you have an even bigger problem, how to reach those with a unique new product, so many promotional efforts all look the same these days.

If you own a product it's almost a no brainer to promote your own product (if done correctly)
If you move away from the affiliate model you remove a few of the "middlemen" and you should be able to make much more

If you want promoting your own products, at-least you should have some affiliates experience. BTW which company you are marketing for them?

I think the big advantage of promoting your own products is that you keep the buyer on your list. Promoting other people's products can be very lucrative, but every time you make a sale, the product creator gains a new email to his list on top of the $$

That's where the long-term value is and that's why you see many product offers giving affiliates 75% commission. They are essentially buying the email address and will make $ with future sales.

I would like to agree on the above statement and make emphasis.

If you are interested in building a huge customer base for the long term, you should be focusing on promoting your own product. However, if you have profitable campaigns on both, why not do both?

Lets say you have limited budget that you are better off concentrating on a single campaign?

There is a saying in the IM industry and it goes like this "The money is in the list".......how many times have you seen marketers mention that sentence time and time out. The good thing about creating a product(here by product i mean a recurring one) is that you get the keep the profits on a recurring monthly basis plus you can hire affiliates to promote your campaigns resulting in more commissions for you. You have full control which you dont while promoting affiliate programs..

Think about it like this....say you are promoting an offer xyz and the advertiser decides to screw you up.....what happens is that you end up losing your hard earned money.

So product creating all the way

if you are new to the game affiliate program is a fast way to test the market. But if you are a veteran and already have enough resources , promoting your product would be good.

    If you think that your own product is unique and can actually serve valuable information to customers;
then go with your own product.
