Question on Links/domains

I know this is going to be one of those threads that gets a "can't you use search function" reply but honest I've searched for much longer than I feel worth it at this point and would love a blunt answer from some experienced warriors. I've been researching link masking, hiding whatever you want to term it, versus purchasing domains. I'm honestly stumped.

From what I can read, most of the good masking codes that were out are no longer working thanks to new FF and IE releases. Iframes are banned by some affiliates. What other options are there besides simply purchasing domains? Sorry to seem dense but I'm running in circles here and to be honest I'm quite exhausted with it.

You can use a simple php code to redirect to the destination page. The url will 'look' like a subdir in your main domain - just pm if you want it. Other methods are using short url service like bit.ly which will also track for you.

Could you post the directions or information here? I can't seem to send PM for whatever reason. I do not know if it is just me or what but it just isn't working for me.
