Option 1 or Option 2 what do you think?

Hello guys and girls.

I am going to be trying to promote/sell a diabetic CPA product soon however I am going to collect an e-mail list first and them promote the product through the e-mail list however which option should I take;

Option 1:

Promote through article marketing to a landing page selling a diabetic recipe eBook for $4.99 which they also have to opt in to download the eBook then promote the diabetic CPA product through the e-mail list?

OR

Option 2:

Promote through article marketing to get a free diabetic recipe eBook which they have to opt in to receive for free then promote the Diabetic CPA product through the e-mail list?

Now obviously option 1 is potentially more of a money making scheme however if people don't want to purchase the eBook then I will lose them forever unless I add an exit pop up for opting in to receive a free diabetic guide or something...

Option 2 potentially has better conversions but what good are these people on my e-mail list if they are not converting to buyers of the CPA diabetes thing.

By the way the CPA diabetic thing is a freebie which they need to answer just a couple of questions.

Any advice?

    I prefer the second option, because it's difficult to let people pay some money to buy a ebook, so you will not get their email so you cannot sell your CPA offer.

    Something in the middle:
    1) Promote your product using option 1
    2) Have a great presell page, also an optin form on the same page (above the fold)
    3) The optin heading should be something like "Would you like to receive Free Diabetes Information"
    4) Two things can happen here - (a) someone will buy the product straight or (b) they'll optin
    5) If someone opt's in they'll be directed to thank you page
    6) Once on thank you page let them know clearly to double optin and check for their email but also give them another chance to buy your product (maybe at a lower price?)
    7) So at this stage you have 3 kinds of folks, a buyer, a buyer who's in your list and a pure listener.
    8) Build trust with your listener(email list). Genuinely provide them good information about diabetes.
    9) They will buy from you if they trust you.
