Best way to get started in affiliate marketing with no knowledge and limited money to invest?

I'd like to try affiliate marketing as a hobby and slowly build up some knowledge of how to do well with different affiliate programs. I don't know much and don't even know the right questions to ask.

I guess the most pertinent question is what is the best way to get started? Buy hosting and pick an affiliate program to try promoting? I guess everyone has experience starting out as a newbie... what things do you start with? How do you pick a program (both getting accepted and picking which ones to promote after being accepted), get relevant backlinks and traffic that converts? Do you buy a domain for every program you try? Is there a cheaper or more efficient way to handle domain costs? Like I said I don't know the right questions to ask, so I apologize.

Yes pick traffic source first, and look for offer to promote. If I were to promote an offer on ESPN.com, I'd definitely pick a o
Sport offer, targeted to male. See that wasn't too hard. Now the conversion will depend upon how the message is conveyed on banner/landing page. I could promote betting offers, sport memorabilia, and maybe Xbox and playstation type offers.

First of all affiliate marketing is the right way to get started. I think you do not spend a lot of time,so you have to choose a product which is offering high commission. It is would be better for you to choose a high paying product rather than less. After choosing your product, the next step is to promote. You can bring a good amount though Facebook. If you can use it effectively. I am doing Affiliate marketing and getting most of my traffic through FB. Are you familiar with FB "Edge Rank"? It determine how may targeted traffic is going to see your promotion.

Is there any particular type of products/services your interested in? i.e. are you more interested in digital products such as ebooks or physical products? Once you've determined those sort of questions then you can choose a suitable affiliate program.

You don't need to buy a domain for every program you try. If your main traffic source is organic search traffic, it's best to have a separate website for each niche because Google likes tightly themed content.

  • There are a lot of strategies which is involved in affiliate marketing, plus some considerations too on what you need to resolve.

    1. Is the product capable of converting?

    2. What is your method of promotion? Shall you do it on social media, use paid traffic, organic searches, etc? Note that most affiliate marketers encounter promoting affiliate products on facebook. Check your product first.

    3. What platform/site should you use? Shall you purchase different domains for every niche?

    4. How do you keep your audiences? Shall you go for email marketing tools and opt-in pages to capture their emails?

    5. How much is your budget? How often would you dedicate your time to work on affiliate marketing?

Start off by reading these forums..
Get an idea of what traffic source(s) you are interested in and learn those well.. (read up on here)

Then once you have an idea, jump in and start trying - this is where you will learn the most.

Once you get a better understanding around the traffic sources, ask more specific questions (this one is very broad and difficult to answer)

So the best way to get started is to pick a product you're interested in and build a website for it? I guess I want to learn how to get organic search traffic because I don't have money to spend on PPC. What's the best way to get targeted backlinks to improve your search rankings?

And thank you for the responses.

If you're starting out, I recommend taking the least expensive or almost free path.

    1. Create a WordPress blog on WordPress.com (that way, you don't have to pay for hosting). Post up some useful content for about 2 months.

    2. Then Sign up to be an affiliate at places like ClickBank and CJ Affiliates.

    3. Start getting traffic to your blog. Short term plan can be traffic from social media accounts. There's also the paid traffic from PPC. Long term plan is to do SEO for your blog.

    Good Luck with it!

      Agreed!

Also, if you want to test out your offer, you can try running some low cost CPV/CPM campaigns before investing more money in paid traffic. Try a service like AdsRevenue.com. Their lowest rate is $0.50 CPM. Once you know which creatives/landing pages work best, optimize where necessary.

I also agree with this path ^^

I would start with choosing a niche you really enjoy, you're going to be spending some time writing content if you start with organic traffic, so the more you like it, the more you will be willing to spend time on it.

I would add another step, analyze competition and try to build a website in a way that could differentiate yours from the others.

Once you have some content that adds value to your audience, you can start sharing on socials, and get some traffic from there too without having to spend on paid social ads yet.

I would also start building an email list from the beginning! It can be your biggest ally in the long term.

      Good luck!

I don't agree with the above.

WordPress.com doesn't allow monetization, so you can't promote Clickbank products on there. The best option is to buy hosting and a domain for self hosted WordPress then you have a proper foundation.
